"Come here Jenna," he said and her body somersaulted inside. She was supposed to stay away from him. How can this happen when he doesn't know how to stay away from her? "I don't like to repeat myself,"
His words had a mixture of everything. Warning. Anger. Longing. She didn't know who to listen. Standing still by the door for a few good seconds she urged herself to move. This is her office and people who work for her are in the very same building. She doesn't want any unwanted attention from them or provoke a rumor about herself with David. It's bad enough that Delilah is giving her a hard time, she doesn't want her workplace to be surrounded by that too.
She goes to him but maintains a respectful distance until he stands up and rounds her desk. "You really like to make me work," he says before bending down and picking her up in his arms.
Jenna gasps and wraps her arm around his neck. "What are you doing?"
"Carrying you of course because for some reason your feet don't know the meaning of 'come here',"
"David," she protested but he shut her up by putting her on his lap and she felt his thighs under him flex. "We-ee uh don't have to sit like this," she began to move but David's huge hand stopped her as they snaked around her waist.
"Stop running from me," he almost yells but shuns Jenna with his outburst. "Just stop,"
She slowly moved in his lap so she could face him. "I am sorry."
"I don't need a sorry Jenna," his chest vibrates as he speaks. "I need you to talk to me. I know what we have isn't a normal situation, but not communicating and making decisions when it concerns two people is nothing but selfish."
She looks at her fingers on her lap, avoiding looking at him.
"If you have a problem, a doubt or if someone is pushing you to do something especially using our relationship then I want you to come to me. Our situation might be uncommon but my feelings are genuine for you," he says and softly lifts her face with her chin. "Be brave enough to see what your one-sided actions are doing to me. If you can do it so thoughtlessly then dare to see how it's affecting me,"
"I am not doing it thoughtlessly," she argued. "Anything but that. I don't know what I am doing but I didn't mean to hurt you,"
"Yet you did. It's not the first time you pulled away when we started getting along. Can I ask what led you to do it this time other than the fact Delilah is your friend and you need her to not hate you?"
Her eyes find him. "It's not about that. I don't want to hurt anyone because of me,"
"You mean us," he softly put a strand of her hair behind her ear. "Are you forgetting I am also in this or have you been clapping with one hand?"
This habit of taking all the blame on herself has come from Jerry. He got her so messed up during the duration of their relationship that whenever anything wrong happens, she snatches the opportunity to put all the guilt and blame on her head.
How would she explain to him that Delilah knows and she is already taking action?
But only on her. Her subconsciousness whispered and Jenna swallowed. "Are you saying you're not worried about Delilah's reaction to this?"
"I was. Not anymore. You wanna know why?"
The way he was talking to her fluttered her heart. He looked so confident and daring with those firm shoulders and a chin that held so much conviction. A little part of her wishes she could have those.
"Ask me why, sweetheart,"
"Why?" she softly asked as she adjusted herself on his lap. Her skirt rode up due to the movement revealing her peach skin that David took no time to touch.
