Honestly, if you had told Peter a year before, that things would be okay? That he would be in a stable, safe place? That he would have gotten himself there?

He wouldn't have believed it, but here he was. As far as Peter Parker things go, things were finally looking up. It finally felt like he was going in the right direction for once.

He had been working for the Bugle for a couple of months at that point and of course things were rocky sometimes, but he was selling 'Spider-Man' pictures fairly regularly.

Of course Jonah was gunning for him, but hey, the pay was okay. Enough to make the rent no problem. He even made enough to buy a couch, small victories.

Of course Tony had offered to furnish the apartment, even though he constantly tried to get Peter to allow him to put him up in a better neighborhood.

Of course Peter always rejected the offer. Tony and Peter had been in regular contact again, messaging most days, and Tony would stop by Peters apartment once a week with 'extra' groceries he 'accidentally' bought.

Peter never believed him, mostly because he was fairly certain Tony had never bought his own groceries before.

But hey, a free bag of food? How could he ever say no. It was mostly fruit and vegetables, stuff Peter couldn't afford to splurge on anyhow so he never felt bad about accepting it from him.

Although he and Tony had reconnected, Peter still insisted that the other Avengers stay out of his life.

He did however, after a while, give Tony the okay to tell them where he was going once a week with a random bag of groceries.

This made the rest want to reconnect as well but Peter just wasn't ready for that, and they respected his decision, no matter how hard they didn't want to.

Peter even looked up what was going on with Ned and MJ, thinking maybe he could reach out. He learned that the both of them had gone to MIT.

Of course, Peter had always wished that the three of them would be there together, but somethings just weren't in the cards for him anymore. Certainly not a prestigious school like MIT.

He had drafted an email to Ned, to apologize, but he never sent it. He didn't want to send it until he had written one for MJ too, but it was proving way too hard.

Every time he thought he came up with something he'd talk himself out of it because he wasn't ready for what they could have to say back to him.

It was better to keep himself and his mess out of their lives anyway.

At least that's how Peter rationalized it.

Every aspect of Peter Parkers life was seemingly on the uptake, but that never bode well. Whenever his life seemed remotely quiet, something came barreling in to quell the silence.

Whether it was a family member dying, or someone thought long buried, showed back up again. The other shoe would drop, it was just a matter of when.

And the thing that broke the silence came sooner than Peter could imagine.

Peter had been regularly patrolling every night for almost a month, he had developed a bit of a routine.

For a week prior he had been feeling like someone was trying to follow him, the feeling  showing up at his most frequented spots over the course of said week.

It wasn't an Avenger again, they weren't following him per say, more like charting out his routine. Like stalking him.

It was exactly six months after his 18th birthday that the figure that had been stalking him introduced himself. He was given 6 months of silence, of course it wouldn't last, when did it ever.
