Harris led the group, closely followed by Kataklysm ahead of Oralie, with Shayde bringing up the rear. Passers-by paid no attention to the group, apart from the older ones who glanced reproachfully at the technology Kataklysm and Shayde were wearing. As they moved deeper into the heart of the city, Kataklysm could feel his heart beating with excitement. He felt free, or rather, relatively free. There was always the possibility of being unmasked, but that was unlikely to happen.
-We'll be at the market soon ! Harris declared cheerfully. Where would you like to go?
The other three members began to think, even if Kataklysm had no idea what kind of stores he'd come across. What would he need ? Anything useful ? Something to decorate?
Better still, something to wear ! Apart from his earth gear, he only had the uniform Ami had given him, and he remembered that he wanted to get some other outfits. Coughing, hoping to encourage others to propose, he raised his voice.
-A... clothing store ? I'm curious to see what you Teorans have to offer!
Oralie raised her hand and spoke up in turn.
-Also... We could check out the theater ? If I'm not mistaken, they've got something new since last week. Could be very interesting...
-Good, good! And you, Shayde?
-If we do all that... we'll be hungry. I suggest a little snack, since we'll have time to starve ourselves.
-Well... I guess we're on a schedule! So, uh, let's get going!
Kataklysm sensed that Harris... was doing his best to lead the group. But he seemed less sure about himself as a leader. But at the same time, what were the alternatives? A human? A rather unsociable and scared-of-humans girl? Or a student with murderous tendencies over one specific member of the group? No, it was better to have a safe guy than a risky one.
As they arrived closer to the market, Kataklysm noticed the level of difference from when he entered the limit of the city : Instead of quiet streets with a few friendly, peaceful villagers, the marketplace was jam-packed with weekend-happy people, eager to do their shopping or have some fun away from their days of work or study.
The stores let so many people in and out of their doors, all wearing smiles and satisfied to find what they were looking for. Rural restaurants and cafés welcomed so many customers that lines sometimes stretched for fifteen meters. It was so similar to his hometown that he forgot to be discreet. At the same time, it was hard to attract attention in a place like this.
-Bon dieu, tellement de monde ! (-God, so many people!)
-Indeed, it's busy today ! declared Harris.
-So, which store should we go to?
They looked from store to shop until they found a majestic, colorfully ornamented one. High-quality clothes on mannequins were displayed to attract customers. Kataklysm could feel the fresh smell of new clothes titillating his nostrils. He couldn't stand it any longer, he had to get in!
-Come on, let's go!
-Yes, added Oralie, before it gets too crowded.
They entered in single file and admired the interior of the building for a few moments: Rows of clothes stretching for dozens of meters, mostly young customers marveling at their finds, and staff members helping the more indecisive to find their needs. At the far end, fitting rooms invited impatient customers to try on their new looks.
