With his head bent over the void, he stared up at the sky, tetanized by recent sensations. Going from a drugged state from which he hadn't fully recovered to fatigue that prevented him from even moving his little toe, he felt like shit.

But it wasn't his state that he regretted. What he regretted was the satisfaction of his little crisis: never in his life had he felt so much thrill fighting. Hard as it was to admit, a part of him still wanted to go back. But he knew it was this temptation that had caused the demise of his predecessors. So he concentrated on something else.

His ears told him that things were starting to heat up in the square. He could hear explosions, cries of terror, pain and panic. This giant squid was wreaking havoc, and he was sitting there, unable to move.

No, he thought, I've got to do something ! He tried to move his legs towards the slippery roof to get back on solid ground. Unluckily, he fell on the other side, and under gravity, he fell outside the property fence.

-Aaah!

Broumfph!

His fall was slightly softened by some ornamental bushes. He mechanically extricated himself from the branches rubbing his face, and stepped out onto the sidewalk. He fell to his knees, his sleeping muscles not quite responding. The situation was becoming desperate: how could he act in his current state ? He felt filled with confusion, and was about to scream as much as he could to regain control. But before he could take a deep breath...

-Hey, what are you doing on your knees ? a familiar voice called out.

Kataklysm turned towards the voice and recognized Shayde, who was leaning against a wall. When she saw his eyes still glistening with the after-effects of the drug, she gasped, then sent a murderous glance as she approached. Kataklysm, sensing that he couldn't possibly recover from her assault, hastened to reply.

-Wait, Shayde, it's me ! It's-it's me, Kataklysm!

The Teoran paused for a moment to consider, her hand still twisted with aggressiveness. She glared at him, then took a deep breath.

-What the hell are you doing, you idiot !? Trying to break in?

The human put one foot on the ground, then the other. It was frustrating to take the time to make such an instinctive move, and he eclipsed a sound of pain.

-No, I just experimented, and it was purely traumatic.

-I'm sure it was... Wait, you were inside?

-Yes, I was... Until that giant squid sent me onto a roof and I went down like a pear, he says, pointing to the nearby building.

-So that's what's causing all the racket.... I'm glad I'm on this side of the wall, to be honest.

-How about yourself ? You want to tell me what you're doing here?

-Working. As a bouncer, I guard the service door, making sure the assholes don't get in. I don't get many customers, but that's good. I don't like the job anyway.

A moment's silence settled in, while a noise resembling a landslide was heard amidst the chaos. The human settled back against the wall, exhausted from standing.

-It's crazy in there... I hope nobody gets killed in this attack.

-Yeah, replied the girl, laughing sarcastically. Hey, imagine what would happen if someone like, I don't know, the Princess got mixed up in all this ? I bet she wouldn't get very far.

This pitiful attempt at humor made Kataklysm realize the gravity of the situation. He had completely forgotten that Ami was still inside, and with that octopus causing destruction... He turned to Shayde, who stared at him apprehensively.
