After a good night's sleep, Kataklysm had breakfast, reflecting on the previous evening. And what an evening it had been! It put him in a good mood, enough to tackle that data cube.
He attacked the thing all weekend long, to the point of developing a routine: feeding himself, either with the Royal family or by receiving a bit of bread from Lanney at her bakery, trying to find access through this fragile yet complicated security system, sleeping, and off he went again.
Unfortunately, he couldn't find a single object resembling a key in his apartment or in some of the dusty old books lying around. So he left the cube inside the outfit he wore during Halloween, telling himself he could always come back to it in due course.
And over the next few days, he eased up on his quest to find Kôrdina, returning to keeping an eye on Ami and her friends. The days were sometimes cool, sometimes lukewarm, but each one went by without a hitch, to the point of being unsettling. The students recognized him and weren't as frightened by his presence, at least not as much as before. This is it, he thought, this is the kind of thing I'd hoped to accomplish two weeks ago. Except he had no idea of the events to come, and wasn't ready for them. For one day, on a cloudy Wednesday...
The sky was so dense that it was threatening to rain. Every now and then, the human swore he'd get a drop of water, but nothing came. He readjusted himself on his seat, which happened to be a table.
-Novembre ici est vraiment comme sur Terre... Ténébreux et déprimant. (-November really is like the one on Earth... Dark and depressing.)
A few students were visible here and there, in this little playground where the green grass turned yellow. Some were playing with their innate magic to pass the time, while others were discussing past or upcoming exams. And there he was, not knowing what to do. Ami was taking her exam, so he couldn't accompany her.
Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he saw someone approaching. He recognized the familiar Teoran and moved slightly across the table to offer him a seat.
-Thank you very much, said Harris while getting closer.
-No problem at all. Don't you have exams?
-Not today, but definitely tomorrow.
The musician sat down on the table. Shoulder to shoulder, they leaned against the wall, observing the gray-hued scenery. The Teoran stretched his arms and placed them behind his head.
-And you, what are you doing?
-Well, not much... It's quiet today. In fact, it's been quiet all week, which bothers me.
-Were you expecting something?
-Something, someone, anything to create the unexpected...
He sighed in annoyance, and looked at his friend. Staring into space, he hummed a little tune without opening his mouth. Then Kataklysm noticed something missing. He glanced over at the fire mage, under the table, but there was nothing there. Then he asked:
-Where's your violin?
-In my locker. I found it cumbersome.
-Cumbersome ? In other words?
-It bothered me, I wasn't in the mood to play, so I left it.
-Harris taking a music break ? he laughed.
-Don't get me wrong, it's only temporary, he declared, shaking his legs. It's just that with Halloween night, - and what a night it was - I just felt like taking a break, thinking about something else.
