Kataklysm checked the time on the corner of his peripheral view. 12:35, still about 3 hours to go. 3 hours with half the students in costume, and the other half begging him to take one of them with him on tonight's party. It made him uncomfortable, having so many admirers, and he wandered the halls hoping not to bump into any more fangirls.
-Tsss... Qu'est-ce que je fais ? (-What should I do?)
Does he want to be accompanied ? Or go there alone ? A simple choice, yet one with many social consequences in both cases. One thing at a time, he thought, one thing at a time...
Then he realized he was approaching the garden opposite the Director's office. To think that a week ago, he'd had a run-in with Luna and Shayde... Now that he thought about it, he hadn't seen either of them for a while. Good for him, he'd have a hard time dealing with that too. He continued on his way, and without really knowing why, headed for the library.
He was surprised to see that the wing of the building seemed deserted, as if all the activity was elsewhere. But he wasn't alone. At the turn of a corridor, he spotted a young girl he easily recognized. He watched, slightly hidden, as Oralie knocked on the library door, hoping someone would open it.
-Come on, open up, damned door...
Frustrated, she kicked the bottom of the door with her right foot and swore.
-Urgh, why, of all days!
She backed up against the wall and let out an annoyed grunt. She turned her head and noticed Kataklysm spying. She gasped and almost fell to the floor.
-Aah ! But... Kataklysm, what are you doing here?
-I'm... I swear I wasn't spying!
-Don't ever do that to me again, I was this close to sending you an attack!
-Sorry, I didn't mean to...
Kataklysm approached slowly and leaned against the wall in turn, staring at the library door. To her left, Oralie was avoiding his gaze, and even seemed on the point of fleeing. To ease the situation, he asked:
-Is the library closed?
-Yes, it is... To celebrate Halloween. And as if that weren't enough, the only topic of discussion is this pretentious girl's party. I was hoping to find refuge here, but well... I can forget about it.
-...
The corridor fell silent. All they could hear were the echoes of students in another part of the school. Oralie approached Kataklysm with a small step, somewhat embarrassed by what she announced:
-I... I heard you could see now. Without the... thing on your face.
-Ah, yes, that's right. I've got to be more careful now.
-So... You're still wearing it?
-Yeah, it's my best cover in case the uninvolved gets too close.
-Alright.
Kataklysm took a sip of water, and offered one to her friend. She accepted it and in turn swallowed the other side of where the human had been drinking. Returning the bottle to him, she turned her head towards the empty corridor.
-Say... What are you doing this weekend?
-Believe it or not... I'm going to the party.
She spun around, stunned and with her mouth half open.
-She... That skank invited you?
-Not exactly, but let's just say it wasn't her doing..., replied Kataklysm, not knowing what skank means.
