Better Off With Whom?

Chapter-7: ATTRACTION

The next day, a board meeting of the staff was to be held.

As everyone walked into the board room, the room was filled with voices that expressed jitters of excitement. All the girls were in complete awe and happiness. The root cause for this behaviour was the presence of Mr. Supervisor, Samuel Collins.

Samuel was highly agitated, moreover annoyed. He felt that he was being judged by his appearance again. He wanted people to think of him more seriously than just a guy who has pleasant facial features.

And there there she was, entering the room, she looked inside, gazed at everyone for equal time and sat on her chair, highly unbothered by Samuel.

As the meeting began, all the female employees were dreamily gazing at Samuel. He felt uncomfortable to be present in the room. He avoided eye contact with most of the girls present there.

Finally, he laid eyes on a girl who was not staring at him but actually engrossed in her work and focussing on the things being shared. It was none other than Evelyn.

She had a serious look on her face, with rimless glasses that covered her pretty brown eyes. Her concentration from the meeting was interrupted as she sensed that she was being stared at.
She looked at Samuel, and raised her eyebrows. She didn't give it much of a thought to it and went back to the meeting as if Samuel was yet another human in the company.

The way she acted, the way she gazed at him, the way she wasn't captivated by him like other girls, it moved Samuel to the core.
This time, unlike usual, it was him who was captivated by someone.
He couldn't help but look at her throughout the meeting.
He was attracted towards her unphased yet attentive attitude towards her surroundings.

Today, he finally realised what it felt like to be attracted by someone. He didn't know how she is in real life, her background personally and publicly. And he didn't want to know.
All he knew was, to get closer to her.
He gathered basic information like name, age, qualifications about her from her applicant resume.

Finally, it was Friday, the last working day of the week.
Samuel, being persistent on knowing Evelyn, got a proposal of his accepted by the Head of their company.
He proposed that since, he's new and doesn't know the strengths, weaknesses, ability to create of anyone, and would like to know all the people who worked under him, he wanted that all the employees submit a creative idea of theirs. And he would select the best idea and would personally work with the respective employee in order to accomplish the project in real life.

The office notice board put up this proposal for all the employees for them to find out such creative ideas of their own during the weekend and submit it on Monday in order to be selected to bring the idea into real life.

Everyone, especially the girls, worked hard during the weekend in order to put up an exceptional impression on Samuel.

Everyone submitted their idea and waited for the result. Each one of the female employee were praying to every god possible as they wanted to spend time with Mr. Handsome.

On Tuesday, another meeting was called in, to announce the result of the same.

Everyone prayed that their idea was selected except Evelyn. She was rather engaged in looking at her sorted files trying to work extra even though she could have sat freely.

Finally Samuel entered the conference room and everyone greeted him. He greeted everyone and started the meeting by saying,
"I took a look at each and every one of those ideas that were submitted by each one of you and one thing I have to say is, you all really are talented and phenomenal at what you guys do!"

A few girl murmured to each other,
complimenting his voice,
"Woah! Deep voice."
"Oh my god.. is he real?"
"Are you joking with me? Such a manly voice he has."
"So basically he's just too good to be true.."
"I think he's the first MAN I have ever seen. Hoarse yet deep, manly, soothing voice with a perfect structural body.."

Evelyn scoffed to herself in silence hearing the girl being a complete simp over a man's voice. I mean how could they just judge someone on the basis of what he looks like, she thought to herself. And focused on the meeting.

"But since, there was only one employee who could be selected, I am selecting the one idea I liked the most. This idea forced me to think about the interesting view towards it and possibility of it coming to a real life model!", he continued.

"Who is it Sir?"
"The luckiest person, whoever it is.."
"Tell us already!"
Many voices overlapped with each other.

"So, the idea of whom I was the most keen on knowing more about is of...
EVELYN MILLER!", he finally broke the suspense of all.

Everyone clapped for Evelyn. Evelyn herself could not believe it was her idea because she didn't even pour all the hardwork into the idea. She came up with it in not more than one hour. Still, she was the one who got selected. While the girl who put all their effort to put up an extraordinary impression of them, didn't.

She sat upright as she was being praised.
The meeting was dismissed and she stood up to leave the room as Samuel rushed towards her,
"I hope you're not too busy in your personal life? I will need you to work till a little bit later than usual till we finish this project..", he said with a warm welcoming smile

"No worries, I'll be present!", she gave him a small smile to express her agreement on his question.

"We'll start from tomorrow then! Looking forward to it!", he smiled at her.

She nodded and took his leave.
