The following few days, Evelyn remained distant from Samuel. She didn't want to mislead him.

She talked to him, but it was not the same anymore.
She now wanted to escape every time he was close to her.
She was not uncomfortable, but uncertain about if she let him be a close friend, it was highly likely that she would be drawn to him considering how attentive and pure hearted he is because the roots of one's indepth true self, never leave them. And love, the unconditional one, was in her roots.

One fine evening, she went home from work like usual. She planned on cooking dinner, like everyday when she she realised that she had to buy regular groceries and necessities.

She had already changed in her comfortable, house clothes. She didn't change them again. It was a short run to the nearby Mart afterall..

She bought the groceries on her list and was on her way to house. She walked. She wore casual women shorts paired with an oversized t-shirt. Her hair tied up in a messy half bun ponytail.
She was busy on her phone scrolling through her Instagram feed, reconciling with her NYC friends by viewing and dropping likes on their recent posts, etc.

She didn't realise, the danger that was incoming. The kind that could possibly harm her to no extents. The kind that only a miracle could save her.
Mindlessly, she walked, minding her business.
Suddenly, a group of drunk weird hooligan looking creepy guys walked past her side. She paid no attention to them as the passed her.
But,
It was when she realised the shadow of a man taller than her overshadowed her physique completely. She looked up only to find that the group of guys had surrounded her from the front.

She took a step back and tried to resume her journey to her house again when one man out of the five spoke with a rashy, rough voice catcalling her,
"Why are you going miss?", he said as his smirk marked all over his face.

"Leave me alone", she ordered in a demanding tone even though her insides screeched in her stomach.

"We'd not take a hold over you only to leave you alone Madam!", another spoke with sarcasm and ego flushed his voice.

Evelyn remained silent. She wanted to scream. She couldn't. The men surrounding her scared her.

Finally the group's alpha, came forward and touched her arm mildly and scanned her with his dirty eyes as it sent chills of discomfort down her spine.

Finally gaining courage she spoke with a shaky voice,
"What do you want?".

"Are you really stupid or are you acting?",
"You look educated, don't you know what we want, gorgeous?",
"Well, you, lady!",
Different people spoke at the same time with a smirky, dominating, creepy smile in different ways to explain, but the context of all was one and clear.

Evelyn was afraid. Frightening as it was, she tried to run away. But unfortunately, she was unsuccessful. The posse of men didn't let her escape, surrounded her completely.

They cornered her to the side of an alleyway right on the left side of the path she walked on.

They touched her uncomfortably, one held her hand, two laid their hands on each shoulder lightly, one cupping her cheek.

Meanwhile this was happening, on the other hand, Samuel was tired from work, exhausted with his life, parked his car and planned on going on a quick stroll with himself in the neighborhood to clear his mind, not even going upstairs to change his suit he had worn.
He was consumed in Evelyn's thought. The way she behaved the past few days, ate his head.

He was used to her passing him morning smiles. Eating together. Talking about random things, her goofy nature that was reserved for her closest friends only. Him being able to witness that, gave him a sense of joy that he was considered important and she was much more important to him than she knew she was.
He didn't want his confession to change things between them so drastically. He liked her, alot. More than he knew he could.
