Better Off With Whom?

Chapter-13: BESTIE'S CONCERN

They both sat silently in front of the beach. When suddenly their silent peace was interrupted by a woman's voice.
"EVELYN! IS THAT YOU?", it said.

Samuel and Evelyn both turned their head behind.
It was Adele.
She rushed towards them when she confirmed it was her.
She held Evelyn's hand forcing her to get up and pulled her in for a hug. She gripped her tightly and spoke,
"I have been looking for you for the past 40 minutes."

"Shit! I am so sorry. I didn't inform you that I found her. I didn't have your phone number.", Samuel said.

Adele pulled Evelyn even closer.
"What happened?", she asked Evelyn.

"Don't worry. I am alright. Let's talk later. At my house?", Evelyn said.

"Sure!", Adele said.

"You can sleep over. It's too late and dark too.", Evelyn said to Adele.

"Stop worrying about me! Let's go. I'll call a cab right now..", Adele said.

Samuel's presence was unintentionally ignored by both of them.
"Okay so, I am right here as you can see. And don't call a cab. I'll drop you both.", Samuel spoke.

Both, Evelyn and Adele nodded.
Samuel directed the way to his car.
The girls sat in the backseat.
Samuel drove the car.
They reached Evelyn's house.
All three of them got out of the car.
"Thanks alot sir..", Adele thanked Samuel.

"No worries!", Samuel spoke with a warm smile as he stood outside the car to make sure they reached safely.

They bid him a good night and went inside.

Samuel got inside the car and drove off to his house.
He reached home and played with his fur babies. But his mind was elsewhere.

Meanwhile on the other side, as Evelyn and Adele went inside, they were attacked by the little demon, Sushi. Cats have the ability to sense emotions. As soon as she hit herself on Evelyn's leg and Evelyn spoke to her, in a weary voice. She calmed herself down.

Evelyn went inside and sat on her couch as Adele got a glass of water prepared. Sushi sat on her lap and looked at her lovingly. Evelyn petted her.
Adele came towards Evelyn and handed her the glass and sat down.
"Sushi understands. She's so smart.", Adele said as she caressed Sushi's head.

Evelyn smiled and nodded.

"So do you want to talk about it?", Adele asked.

"It's the same old story repeating. You know it..", Evelyn said.

"Well, if you want, you can still rant and whine to me. I don't mind hearing it again and again. If talking can puts you at ease, do talk about it.", Adele said as she urged.

Evelyn told her the whole scenario of what happened at the restaurant.
Adele listened to her while her blood was enraged and fumed with fire inside her because she was aware that this would definitely bother Evelyn. She was pissed. Evelyn take unworthy things to her heart and sob over it, making it her entire personality.

"Don't you dare think about this after tonight. I beg you not to!", Adele asked Evelyn.
"Don't worry I won't. I am moving past this. Right now. I'll block any contact that leads me to him.", Evelyn said.

Adele nodded with a proud smile that screamed 'DAS MY GIRL!'.

"So what's up with the supervisor?", Adele asked straight forward.

Evelyn furrowed her brown in confusion.
"What?", she said.

"I mean he likes you. And before you interrupt me disagreeing with it, let me just spit out what I saw.. he was concerned for you as if his precious ornament had gotten lost. Which senior runs after a regular employee in order to find out if she's okay?

Evelyn raised her eyebrows in disbelief.
"Bro! I know you want me to move past the old shit but you're spouting nonsense. He's just a good person. He just befriended me. And besides, I am too much consumed in my own things to be committed to someone.."

"Fine! Don't believe me! You will know whose spouting nonsense!", Adele said.

Silence spread over the room. Finally Adele said what she has been holding inside of her,
"I just want to say that, IF he ever comes with the intention of shifting this friendship of yours to another angle, maybe love, which I am certain he will, please, do not hesitate. He is good shot. I am sure, if given a chance and he has the will to make you his, he won't hold back any effort. He has a positive vibe around him. He will be really good to you. Just do not push him away, I request.."

Evelyn looked at Adele as Adele had seriousness flushed all over her face. Adele genuinely wanted Evelyn's good.
"Let's just go to sleep now. I am going to have a headache tomorrow.", Evelyn said

They both went to bed.
Before hitting the hay, Evelyn texted Samuel,
EVELYN: hey!
EVELYN: I just wanted to thank you for today. Thank you so much for listening and letting me lighten my mind while I was consumed by so much. You were really helpful.

Samuel's phone rang as the notification of Evelyn's message popped on his screen.
A glimpse of a wide smile rushed on his face.
He texted,
SAMUEL: As I said, it's not a big deal. Text me whenever. We're friends afterall now.
EVELYN: Hah yes definitely, you're a good listener so I won't hold back.
SAMUEL: Please don't. I'll be more than happy to entertain you when you feel low.
EVELYN: you too.
SAMUEL: Thanku!
EVELYN: Have a good night.
SAMUEL: YOU TOO!

Evelyn put her phone aside and closed her eyes. She felt quite light hearted since she came back from beach. Even though, when she took off from the restaurant in order to seek alone time, she was grateful someone found her and heard her.

Finally, when Samuel was ready to hit the hay, he processed everything..
He felt highly unhappy with the fact that Evelyn cages her sorrows and pain inside of her and coats herself with a coping personality so she looks fine on the outside.. She is so pleasant and sweet to everyone around her. She never indulges in wrongdoing and still is never appreciated by the people she loves.

He felt his heart being crushed for her. He hates how such an extraordinary person deals with so much alone.
He wanted her to be delighted everyday of her life and not long for happiness and approval of others. It would be amazing if he is able to make her happy and give her reasons to hope for better in the future and not neglect herself.
