Daniel's POV
Most of the football team is still in the parking lot, celebrating even though it's just a fun game. It's getting late as we have school in the morning so I look around for Madi. It takes me a moment but I notice that she isn't up here. Blake walks up the stairs from the field, head hung low, causing me to wonder why it took him so long to get up here. I saw him hanging off to the side while we were celebrating down there, most likely waiting for Madi, so I figure he would be a good place to start.
I walk towards him, "Hey, were you talking to Madi? Do you know where she is?"
He looks up, his eyes red, "Uhm, yeah, she's still down on the field."
"Thanks," I start to walk past him.
He grabs my arm, pulling me back, "Can you... can you make sure she's okay?"
"Of course." His concern makes me question what's going on here. He walks past, and I resume walking to the field. I look to the field once I get a good view and see someone sitting on the pitchers mound. I pick up my pace, fear flooding my mind.
What the hell happened?
What did he do?
What did she do?
It feels like I make it to her in no time. I kneel down in front of her, causing her to look up. Tears fill her eyes. I pull her up to stand and hug her.
"What happened?" I ask, pulling back.
"I messed up, really bad. Like, really fucking bad." She wipes the tears from her face.
"What do you mean?"
"He's a great guy, he's nice. And he really cares. And I fucked up when he was just asking a simple question. And he was just trying to make sure I'm okay, like, he noticed something was wrong, and he tried to make sure I was okay, and I blew up at him. I'm such an awful person." She sobs in front of me.
"Hey, you're not an awful person. Sure, maybe it was a bit of a dick thing to do..." I trail off and she gives me a look, "but A) you're drunk; and B) well, you're still dealing with Nessa."
Her face at the mention of her name breaks my heart. She sighs and looks back down, "I just feel really bad."
"I know, but you can't do anything about it right now, so why don't we just go home, and you can go to bed, and deal with this all tomorrow." I gently push her towards the concrete stairs by the field.
Once we get up to the lot we walk past everyone else and I wave my goodbyes, keeping Madi on the other side of me. I help her get into my car, after all, drunk and tired is never a good combination. I get in on the drivers side and drive us both home. It's pretty easy getting her in the house without our parents noticing, them being too focused on their show in their room.
I help Madi climb into her bed and cover her with her comforter. I leave her room and walk into mine. I'm climbing into bed and taking a melatonin before scrolling on Instagram.
I'm about to set my phone on my nightstand when I get a text:
'Goodnight, Cutie'
When I check who it's from, I smile seeing Lexi's name.

Lexi's POV
I can't help but smile as I send the text, even with the worry plaguing my mind. I get an almost immediate response:
'Goodnight❤️'
My small smile breaks into a full on grin. I know I only had the confidence to send that text because I'm pretty drunk right now, but I don't care. Right now, he's one of the best things in my life.
