Lexi's POV
I'm a little bit drunk as me and Madi sit on the bleachers. I immediately rest my head on her shoulder.
My mouth decides to speak without consulting my brain, "is Daniel talking to anyone?"
She slightly chuckles before looking at me, "not anyone but you."
"Really?"
"Yes, really."
"How do you know?" I mumble, looking back at the game.
"Because the way he looks at you. No way he looks at you like that and is talking to anyone else. Why would he when he already has the prettiest girl in school willing to date him."
"You're too nice to me." My eyes start to flutter close.
"I know." The last thing I feel before I fall asleep is her resting my head on her lap.
Madi's POV
Lexi's head rests on my lap as the first inning starts. Daniel is pitching for the football team and funnily enough, Blake is up to bat for the hockey team.
First hit: Strike
Second hit: Foul
Third hit: Foul
Fourth hit: He finally hit the Goddamn ball.
The ball made it out to left field and Blake got to first base. The game continues like this for the top of the first inning, a lot of strikes, fouls, etc.. Obviously they've never really played baseball before, just a ton of hockey heads.
The bottom half is much better, the football team gets a homerun, and they run more bases. The score after the first inning being 1-2. I know for a fact that the majority of the football team has played or does play baseball, so it probably wasn't a fair game to begin with.
~~~~~
The score at the end of the game is 5-11, football team won. The hockey team sulks as they walk back up to their trucks while the football team celebrates on the field. Me and Lexi took a few more shots once she woke up, so I'm a little tipsy at this point. One person stays off to the side. I try not to pay attention to him and focus on the cheers in front of me. There's a group of them shot gunning beers in the center, when they finish everyone pats them on their backs before heading back up to the parking lot.
I purposefully fall behind and let Blake catch up to me. At the moment we're standing on the pitcher's mound, face to face.
I break the comfortable silence, "what was it you said again? Something like, 'Hate to disappoint you, Miller, but not happening'."
"Hahaha. I may have eaten my words."
"May have?"
"Yup."
"What were you going to ask me earlier?"
"What?"
"Like, before the game, you were about to ask a question before the game started."
"Hard topic change but okay." He jokes, stepping a bit closer to me.
"Just ask me the question already."
Blakes POV
"Are you okay?" I see her face flash with something, I don't know what, but it's there.
She chuckles before answering, "Yeah I'm fine, why?"
"Are you sure?" Her smile faulters for a moment.
"Why are you asking?"
"You don't seem okay."
She takes a step back, "That's not for you to tell."
I step closer, "I just want to make sure that my friend is okay."
"Well we're not friends, so it's really none of your concern." She backs up, tears in her eyes, her arms crossed.
Not gonna lie, that stung. I know we're not exactly the closest but I thought we'd become sort of friends.
"You don't mean that." I try and grab her hand to pull her back.
"Just go Blake. I don't need your help. I don't need your pity. And I certainly don't need you to fake care about me. Just go."
"I'm sorry-"
"I swear to God Blake, are you daft?"
"I'm going." I brush past her, looking back to see her still standing there. I walk to the steps, with one final glance back, I see her sitting down, with her face buried in her knees. It hurts thinking that I did that, I don't know why, considering it's
Just
A fucking
Game.
Right?
A few things. Sorry this was a really short chapter, I would've made it longer but I honestly don't know a lot about baseball. Also, I know she reacted very dramatically at a simple question, but she's very drunk (even though she doesn't admit it), she has a lot of emotions coming up, especially considering it's a very hard time right now. And I think lastly, I LOVE Daniel and Lexi. I'm so excited for them (I don't care if this is a spoiler because if you haven't figured it out yet, then what're you doing?)
