This love story was always going to end, she knew it from the moment it started. The world seemed brighter whenever she was with him, it made it all the harder to bring herself to face the signs that it would end. 'I loved him...no, I love him' That thought alone had her heart racing and her desire to change the future, his future, all the stronger.

'To lose this love, I can't bear it.' Letting her eyes flutter shut, she presses her hand to her chest, feeling the way her heart erratically beats. 'Still, the things we lose always have a way of coming back to us.'

. . .

Neville felt warmth rush through him as his hand clasps Luna's. "I can't believe the year is coming to an end already, we'll be sixth years next year."

"Nothing ever truly comes to an end." Her soft voice fills his ears, causing a silly grin to spread across his face. Turning, he pushes down the urge to lean over and kiss her cheek, not wanting to scare her, and much too shy to bring himself to actually do it. Pale silvery eyes study him, a ghost of a smile flashing past her lips, leaning towards him, her lips meet his.

Melting into the kiss, Neville wraps her in his arms, pressing her against him. She always had a way of reading his thoughts, sometimes, like right now, he really loves that about her. Breaking the kiss, the two stare into each other's eyes, Neville admiring the way her pale silvery eyes seem to dance in the light, mysteries to unravel contained within those depths. Finding the bravery to ask her out had been the hardest thing he ever did, but ever since then he felt a little braver every day with her by his side.

Thinking back on it, he's so grateful they ended up on the same train compartment when heading to Hogwarts at the start of the year. 'If not for that, we might never have reached this point.'

(Flashback)

"You're worried about something." A soft voice reaches Neville's ears, causing him to jump in fright, almost falling off his seat within the small train compartment.

"Luna, you startled me." Neville said upon looking up and seeing those pale silvery eyes. Happy to see his friend after a long break, he gestures for her to sit.

Luna enters, gracefully sitting, eyes fixed on Neville. Not liking being at the receiving end of her gaze, he uneasily shifts in his seat, feeling like she is looking right through him. Luna's always been weird, everyone says that, but she's more than weird, she's different, maybe a bit crazy and off, but she's also so real and she isn't bothered by everyone seeing her as different. 'I wish I could be more like her.'

"You're worried." Luna restates, voice lilting up at the end, eyes intently studying him.

Neville lowers his eyes, not meeting hers. "I'm worried I won't do well in any of my classes this year."

Luna hums, silence overtaking the room, the compartment vibrating slightly as the train takes off. 'Soon I'll be back at Hogwarts.'

Nearing the end of the train ride, Luna abruptly stands up, moving to leave, casting one last glance back at Neville. "That's not the only thing you're worried about. If you want to talk, come find me. Oh, and don't worry, you're just as sane as I am."

The compartment door slid shut, leaving Neville to his thoughts. The offer is sweet, but the last bit threw him off. 'I'm as sane as her? I never understand why she says what she says.'
