Author's POV:-
She took a big, shaky breath and ran to the door, trying to look happy..
He was standing at the door with lots of groceries. He was trying to smile, but it looked fake to Her . She took the bags from him, and they felt really heavy.
She put the bags on the kitchen counter, but she was thinking about what to do next.
This wasn't a grocery run gone wrong; this was a life-altering discovery. Even though she was very scared, She decided to do something about it instead of letting the scary secret keep her from doing anything.
She forgot about the groceries because she was so terrified about something she discovered. He came home feeling happy, but She was really scared and worried inside. She pretended to be happy to hide how she felt.
"You came early,"She tried to sound normal, but her voice was shaky. Her heart was beating very fast because she was scared.
He was talking like nothing was wrong, telling her that he was quick at the store.
"Everything alright, Misha?" His concern was genuine, his hand reaching out to cup her face. His touch, once comforting, now sent shivers down her spine.
After discovering his secret nothing about him felt genuine and comforting to her.
"Why are you sweating so much?" His question hung in the air, a spotlight on the physical manifestation of her inner terror.
"No... Nothing's wrong," She couldn't speak properly because she was trying to hide her emotional turmoil . She was angry with herself because she knew he could tell she was lying.
Escape.
That was the only thought that came in her mind. "Actually, Vedansh, I have to go. Urgent work came up," she blurted, pulling away from his touch and snatching her phone.
"But... movie night?" His voice held a hint of disappointment, following her as she made a hasty retreat towards the door.
"We'll do it another time, I promise," She offered, her voice steady as she slipped on her sandals. The apartment felt suffocating, the walls seemingly closing in on her.
"Wait, let me at least walk you home," He looked worried and kept saying she was sick, but She didn't want to be around him anymore because of what she found out..
The man she thought she knew had changed into a stranger, his actions casting a dark shadow over their relationship.
"No!" The word escaped her lips, louder and sharper than she wanted .
"I mean, I can manage. Really, you don't have to." The forced smile felt fake , a flimsy mask barely concealing the cold dread seeping into her bones.
She waved goodbye to him , but she was really trying to leave quickly., She practically ran out of the apartment, slamming the door shut behind her with a resounding thud.
The hallway echoed with the sound of her hurried footsteps, each one carrying her further away from the unsettling discovery and the man she no longer recognized.
...............
Vedansh's POV:
I hummed contentedly, juggling the grocery bags as I approached my apartment. Misha's smiling face greeted me at the door, but a nagging feeling pricked at me.
The smile seemed strained, forced. Had something happened while I was gone?
InsideI put the grocery bags on the counter. The heavy bags helped me feel calmer compared to how worried I was feeling inside.
