Those who were sent to the farmlands of the empire were forced to work for free for farmers who simply can't afford to waste time. Often times, they were treated humanely for the most part
The same could not be said to those who were sent to the mines to extract the resources from Eldian mines in exchange for freedom
But those who were sent to the cold tundra regions within Eldia were the ones who fucked up big time. Being forced to dig holes in the ground, only to realize that they were digging their own graves.
