I rode with Aragorn. I sat behind him and clung to him while I stared at the ground. I didn't feel the same anymore. I didn't even remember what I felt like before. What did I once feel that was considered normal?
We made camp when the sun was beginning to set. Aragorn laid down a blanket for me and I sat down, wrapped in my cloak.
"You're very quiet," Aragorn said.
"Somethings wrong," I sighed and looked at the grass around us. I brushed my hand over the grass and then stared at the ground. Nothing happened.
My lip quivered as I stared at the yellow grass. Then I stood up and looked around at the villagers. "Rowan." Aragorn stood up as well. "Rowan, please," he calmly said. I didn't even look at him. I stared at a tree not too far away.
I walked around the people making camp. I walked past Legolas, our shoulders brushing against each other. "Rowan?" He asked me.
I pointed my fingers at the leaves and thought about all the times I made leaves dance in the wind.
Nothing happened.
I dropped my hand to my side and stared at the tree trunk. Aragorn stood behind me. "Rowan..."
I turned around and looked into his brown eyes. My own eyes filled with tears. "My magic," I whispered. "It's gone." Legolas joined Aragorn and looked at me with worry. I ran my hands through my hair and cried even louder as I sunk to the ground. "It's gone...it's all gone," I cried.
"You don't know that," Aragorn said. He sat beside me in the grass. "He only bled one wrist. You're got magic inside you still."
"I couldn't speak to the horse. I couldn't grow a flower, I couldn't move the leaves," I said. "They're so basic. Those are basic abilities. And I cannot do them."
"There is still magic in your soul. It just needs a little hope," Legolas assured me.
"You are the Witch of Red. There is no way that your defeat will come that easily," Gimli added.
I looked at Aragorn who was on my right, Legolas on my left, and Gimli who stood in front of me. They were my companions. We had gone through a lot together already and had much more to endure.
I wiped the tears from my face and laughed at myself.
"Rowan, we will help you," Aragorn said. I smiled at him and he kissed my cheek.
