Swastika Saha
I just turned nineteen last month, and I live in the calmest village called, Sonargarh, maybe that's why my parents named me Sona, after this village, in our village, women are only allowed to wear sarees, that's why I never wished to wear something else.
When I think about my parents, baba doesn't always show his love, but I can tell he cares about me a lot, on the other hand, maa never misses a chance to show her love, both of them work hard on the farm because that's how we earn money.
I take care of everything after they went, including our cottage and my younger siblings, I really enjoy reading books, but I haven't been able to read since my parents made me stop going to school when I was only ten years old, I'm the oldest daughter in my family, and I have two younger siblings.
I really adore both of them, they mean the world to me, I can't even imagine my life without them.
The youngest member of my family is my brother, Madur, he is just like his name suggests, he is incredibly sweet and always willing to lend a helping hand, while he's only five years old!
Then there's my sister, Bani, she's fifteen years old and often lost in her own thoughts, unlike me, she doesn't enjoy staying in our village, she has always dreamt of living in the city, once, our father took the three of us to the city.
It was such a fun experience, even though we didn't buy anything, because everything is so expensive there, if we could buy anything we surely not able to come back.
I wish I could live in this village forever, even though we don't have electricity all the time, this village may not be fully developed but the lake is so peaceful, whenever I'm feeling down, I like to sit by the lake to calm my mind.
However, there's something that bothers me a lot, over the past three years, I've noticed that young girls have been disappearing without any explanation.
It's strange because nobody talks about it, when I was 16, I asked my mom about it and she really got angry and slapped me.
I cried whole day and didn't talk to her, I don't understand the reason behind her slap, but after that incident I never brought it up again.
No one in the village talks about it either, I wonder if they got married and moved away, but I don't want to get married and leave my village.
I wish that my future is full of happiness and peace, and that I get to spend my entire life with my family...
