A few days later...

Y/N was almost completely healed, only a slight limp but more so because she was relearning how to use that muscle a bit after being off it so long. "Hey gimpy" Sadie said with amusement, flicking her hat at Y/N. Y/N narrowed her eyes at Sadie and smiled, flicking her hat back.

Y/N limped over to the chickens, grabbing some feed to take care of them. "Hey... that's usually my thing" Sadie said, offering to carry the feed bag. "I know, that's why I'm doing it" Y/N smirked. Sadie just looked at her side ways. "You don't have to do my job, Y/N. I'm fully capable" Sadie said.

"Oh, I know that. Haven't been running with you for what a couple days? But I sure do know that" Y/N smirked at the woman, who had her hands on her hips. "Then why are you doing my jobs? You been doing them" Sadie said.

"You're allowing me to stay with you in your tent, I'm not all that useful anywhere else..." she gestured to her leg. "So, I figured it's the least I can do. I don't just sit around Sadie. I earn my keep. I share all of the work" Y/N said. Sadie smiled. She tried to hide it but Y/N saw it.

"I understand" Sadie said. "Mind if I at least help?" Sadie asked. Y/N smiled. "Well, I ain't gonna tell you no" she laughed. "Alright then" Sadie picked up the feed bag and carried it, while they walked over to the chickens.

"How long have you been running with the gang?" Y/N asked. "Not long" was all Sadie said. "Were you in a gang before this?" Y/N asked. "No" Sadie said. She wasn't very talkative on the subject. There was a silence. Y/N decided not to pry anymore. She seemed uncomfortable.

"My husband..." Sadie said. "Jakie... He was... Murdered by the O'Driscol's" she said. There was a silence. Sometimes Y/N felt it was best to stay silent when someone was talking about something and to just listen, instead of jumping on it immediately with words a person has heard a thousand time's.

Sure enough, Sadie began opening up more. Silence also makes people talk more. She wanted to hear what Sadie had to say. "They burned every damn thing I ever had" Sadie said. "Even took my damn horse..." Sadie shook her head.

"Every single thing, they took it" she said. "I've decided since that day... no one would ever take from me again" Sadie said, somberly. "They'll pay..." Sadie said coldly. "Believe me, they will all pay. One by one" Sadie tried not to grit her teeth.

It seemed like the death was relatively recent with how angry Sadie still was. Not recent enough for it to have just happened, because if that were the case... she'd probably be a crying, mess, unable to function or form sentences properly. Y/N had been around people grieving and Y/N herself has grieved... so she understood how the process went.

"This ain't the place for me" Sadie said. "But they took me in when I had no one" Sadie said. "It works for me right now" she added. "But I'm no outlaw" Sadie said. Y/N smirked. "What?" Sadie looked at her and narrowed her eyes.

"Just coulda fooled me... that's all. You handle your own Sadie Adler" Y/N smiled. Sadie couldn't help but reveal a big ol grin. "Yeah well... I had skills prior. My husband and I shared all of the work. Just like you do. We were secluded up on the mountain... and there were times we both had to fight" Sadie said.

"Be tough or die, as my father always told me" Sadie smirked. "And well... I ain't dead yet" Sadie laughed. Y/N did as well. "You know Sadie... I haven't gotten to know too many folk at this camp well but I think you and I... are on the same page" Y/N said.

Sadie threw some more feed to the chickens, smirking at Y/N. There was a silence. "I think that too" Sadie said. "As far as the other's..." Sadie said. "They're mostly good. They just do a hell of a lot of bad. More bad than good. It's a... grey sort of area" Sadie said.

"I understand grey areas very well" Y/N said. Sadie looked up at Y/N. "I'm sure you do" Sadie smiled. They stayed there for a bit, talking, while the chickens ate. "What's it like?" Sadie asked. "What?" Y/N questioned, looking for elaboration.

"Being in an all woman gang... how was that?" Sadie asked. Y/N smiled, a hint of melancholy creeping across it. Sadie gave her a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry... you don't have to talk about it if it's too soon. I should've been more thoughtful" Sadie apologized.

"No no... it... It was... magical" Y/N said. "I know that sounds all fru fru, frilly, and all that but... it was" Y/N smiled, looking up at Sadie. "Nothing but trust. All honesty, all the time... truly. We never lied to one another" Y/N said.

"It was everything good about being a woman... you know?" Y/N looked at Sadie. "I do..." she smiled. "You have any sisters?" Y/N asked. "I don't. Just two brothers. I lost one of em to hypothermia. Fell into ice on the water one day... the other lives out in Armadillo" Sadie said.

"What about you?" Sadie asked. "No biological siblings but I had my girls. They were like sisters to me. Chosen family. You know?" Y/N explained. "I'm not quite there yet with anyone here" Sadie said. Y/N smiled.

"But I'm sure I will be..." Sadie smiled at Y/N. Y/N felt a tingly feeling in her stomach, like butterflies flapping their wings, ever so elegantly and soft. She must have made a strange face because Sadie was looking at her weird.

"Sorry, something with my stomach... I... I'm probably tired" Y/N laughed. "Want me to walk you back to the tent?" Sadie asked sweetly. "No, I'm... I'll be fine. Just off..." Y/N shrugged. "Okay cowgirl... as long as you're alright" Sadie smirked, looking at her a little concerned.

"I'm okay, I think I just need to sit down" Y/N said. "Well, I'll tell you what... I'm headed to the store. Do you want me to pick you up something?" Sadie asked. "No, thank you though. I think I just need to take the pressure off my leg" Y/N said. "Absolutely, get to it" Sadie smiled.

"I'll put the feed away. You get to the tent" Sadie ordered. "Yes ma'am" Y/N saluted her. Sadie just laughed and shook her head. "That's right" Sadie teased. Y/N limped back over to the tent. To tell you the truth, she wasn't feeling bad. She just felt odd. What was that feeling?

She had never felt that way before. It wasn't bad per say... just really odd and unusual. She just laid down. Must need some rest or something. She felt lightheaded, but only slightly. Maybe sleep would help.
