We finally arrived after a long trip there. We definitely got some distance in between us and where we were, that's for sure. It'd take about a week, I'd reckon before news spread this way. So, we had time to think it over.
We washed the day off us at the hotel. I just got done braiding Sadie's hair before bed, that's when she looked at me. She said: "You know... We're probably going to have to get new names". "For now at least" she added. "That's true" I said. I hadn't even thought about it but she was right, we had to eliminate all risk.
"People will probably think we're sister's or something but... We should have the same last name" she smiled. "Kinda like we're married" she teased (or at least I thought she was). I smiled at her, as she rubbed Petroleum Jelly all over her arms and elbows to moisturize.
She put the lid on the jar and walked over to me, I was sitting on the bed. She sat on my lap, straddling me. I grabbed her hips, holding her up and smiling at her, as she caressed my cheek. "You have no idea how much I love the idea of being married to you" I hummed.
She smirked at me. "I think about it sometimes..." she began. "About... spending my life with you... running off, starting a life, marriage, kids... the whole thing" her voice cracked as she laughed. "Y/N... I want that. With you" she said. "A life... you know... what John and Abigail has" she explained.
"Why are we any different because we're women?" She shook her head. "You know... my whole life I've been told what I can or cannot do... what I should or should not do... because of who I am... a woman" she said. "I know that you understand this about me but... I just think it's shit, you know?" She said.
"Why shouldn't you and I be happy together?" She asked. I smiled at her. "There's not a damn reason why we couldn't be" I said. "Exactly" she kissed my cheek and then my neck. I threw my head back and hummed.
She pulled away and looked at me, her chocolatey, decadent, brown eyes meeting mine. "So, we agree then?" She asked. "About what?" I just laughed. "That you'll be my wife" she said. I just laughed, then I realized she wasn't.
"W-Sadie... we aren't allowed" I said. She just threw her head back laughing. I looked at her, perplexed... maybe she's lost her mind after all this. "What?" I asked. "Just... you... saying we're not allowed to do something" she smiled.
I smiled, understanding what she was getting at. "All that time... those years" she laughed. "Doing nothin but wrong... and the one time we want to do something right... you decide to abide by the law" she laughed harder.
I couldn't help myself, I joined her at my expense. It was ridiculous. "Yeah... you bring up a good point" I smiled. We eventually stopped laughing. There was a silence. "So... What do you mean then?" I asked. "I meant what I said" she smiled.
"I want you to be my wife" she smiled ear to ear. "But... how?" I asked. "Obviously we can't officially do that" she started. "But maybe we can... have a ceremony? Doesn't have to be a preacher or anyone official because it... isn't" she laughed. "But... You know... still do the whole thing..." she smiled.
"That's not what it's about anyways... being married..." she added. "It's Not about the piece of paper or... the official nature of it" she explained. "It's about wanting to spend your life together and making that promise to one another that you will, that you want to" she said.
I was absolutely taken back by this. I had never thought about it because... well, we couldn't and why would I think about that? You know? When she said it though, it made perfect sense. I wanted to spend my life with Sadie. That much, crossed my mind daily.
Sadie was waiting for me to respond. She just stared at me, smiling. "Left you speechless huh?" She laughed. "That's a rare occasion" She teased. I just laughed, pushing her shoulder playfully. There was a moment of silence, as we were both thinking about what had been said.
That's when Sadie got up, and offered me her hand. I grabbed her hand and stood up with her. We were face to face, looking at one another. God... all I ever could need was that woman's face, across from mine, for as long as we lived.
That's when Sadie got down on one knee. I looked at her with big eyes in suspense. I never thought in a million years I would be proposed to, not by anyone and not by Sadie but there she was. She looked up at me, propped up on one knee. She smiled ear to ear.
"We have a lot to figure out" she started. "The specifics of how we will do thing's... are unclear. I just know that I want them. With you..." she smiled. "It's unconventional but hell... our whole life seems to be that way" she smirked.
"Most people don't marry a woman, most people don't kill a whole gang, most people aren't best friends with murderers and thieves" she shook her head. "Most people don't fall in love with someone who when they first met, held a gun to their head" Y/N teased. She and Sadie just busted out laughing.
"Exactly..." Sadie smiled. "Y/N I'll be honest... I don't want to be like most people" Sadie said. "Never have, never will... even if I wanted that, it's not possible for a woman like me" she smirked. "Me either" Y/N smirked back. "Exactly..." Sadie bit her lip, and grabbed Y/N's hand.
"Y/N... I want to spend my life with you honey" Sadie said, soft as a cloud. "I want to experience everything this life has to offer, with you by my side" she said. "No matter where we go. I want you with me" Sadie said. "If that wasn't clear" she smiled ear to ear.
"Y/N... I want you to be my wife. Being married... it made me real happy before" Sadie smiled. "And... I... I want that with you. I want you to be able to experience that as well" she said. "This whole domestic, settling down thing..." Sadie laughed. "It never was something I thought I'd wanna do again but... I'll be damned if you didn't just kick the door in and... Make me start dreamin again" Sadie's cheeks turned red.
"There's more to life than what we were doin" Sadie said. "And I wanna do it with you" Sadie kissed Y/N's hand. "I want that too..." Y/N smiled and blushed. "Yeah?" Sadie asked. Y/N shook her head. "So... Y/N... Will you marry me? Will you me my wife? Forever?" Sadie asked.
Y/N got the biggest smile on her face. "Yes" she said. "A million times yes" Y/N said assuredly. Sadie's face turned red and she smiled so big her cheeks were sore. "Yes?!?" She asked. "Yes, Sadie. I would love to marry you" Y/N said.
"Ahh shit" Sadie put her head on her forehead. "I'm gonna pass out" she said, attempting to stand up but she couldn't. Y/N just laughed, coming down to her. Sadie and Y/N both laughed. They looked at each other. Sadie held Y/N's head in her hands and smiled.
Y/N leaned in and kissed her a hundred times. Then they laid on the floor for the next 2 hours, talking about their future. Finally, it had gotten way too late and Sadie's eyes were getting heavy. Y/N helped her up and they both got in bed and fell asleep, an engaged couple. Not how Y/N expected the rest of the night/morning to go at all after all that happened but hey... it was a crazy day and sometimes crazy days, they make you see things differently.
