Axel's towering city walls had just become a fragment as it dipped below the horizon with how far YN and Megumin had gotten since departing the settlement at noon like they'd agreed.
With his shield on his back, and a bag slung over his armored shoulder, YN kept up pace with the shorter Megumin. The Archwizard leisurely strolled along about a half-dozen paces or so ahead of him, her hands behind her head, but still holding her staff as she took long lifted leg strides, marching forward.
In the time they'd been walking, very few words had been exchanged between them. But as YN pulled out a small rolled up map to double check their path, his attention was turned towards that as Megumin turned to look back at him.
In her own brief time in the beginner town, she'd seen plenty of Adventurers, but this heavily armored individual was an oddity among even them. Slowing her pace, the Crimson Demon girl eventually matched pace with him again, and fell behind him for a few paces before catching back up to match him, getting a better look at his large shield as she did.
That thing is taller than I am... How much does that weigh for him?
Putting away his map, YN looked up to see if Megumin was still taking the lead, and upon seeing she wasn't there, he panicked for a split-second. Rapidly looking around assuming maybe he did indeed have slightly diminished awareness afterall when wearing his helmet, he thankfully quickly spotted the girl to his side.
Still exchanging no words, the two continued to walk along the main road to their destination. All the while, and given his obviously worried reaction Megumin had of course noticed, the girl in the short red dress really took in every detail of this walking steel golem she was accompanying, ironically to go defeat another golem.
Every step he took, a part of this heavily rusted armor he wore clanked or rattled. If it wasn't his arms hitting the shield on his back, it was the rather short sword on his hip clanking against the armor on his upper legs.
Letting the silence go on for too long in her opinion, and with her curiosity piquing, she finally posed a question to the walking juggernaut.
"So... how long have you been in Axel?"
"Long enough to take only a few quests here and there. Maybe a week or so. You?"
"I've not been there long. I'm simply waiting for a competent enough party to come along and recognize the talent that's overflowing from the Crimson Demon's foremost prodigy."
"I see. I guess I can only wish you the best of luck with that."
With her boastful nature returning, YN began to form a better idea of how this girl was starkly different compared to Yunyun.
Yunyun can be a bit shy... but this girl just screams 'chuunibyou.'
"You must have a goal of your own. Do you intend to stay around Axel for long, or move on to towns where there are more challenges?"
"Y-You could say I have a reason or two for sticking around Axel despite how it's getting slower... But I've got a debt to pay off you see, so I'll take any Quest I can get my hands on."
Answering her question, his reply seemed to only generate more curiosity from the girl.
"Ahh a debt. That explains why you're sticking with that rusty old armor and the short sword. Speaking of which, with your equipment... what class would even benefit from so much armor? You don't come across as a Crusader with such a small sword."
Asking a question that YN couldn't freely answer, especially given Megumin's familiarity to Yunyun, he chose his words carefully and dodged the question entirely.
