The noise of tension from a white knuckle grip upon a staff's wooden construction was the only sound thus emitted between the two here on this bluff for the greater part of time they had occupied it, overlooking the violence down below.
Even the gentle gusts of wind that blew their hair made not a noise. The air was writhe with pressure as they awaited their part to play in the ensuring plan. To each, their levels of doubt varied, and for one of them, a lack of conclusion to it was reaching a fever point.
"This is absurd..."
With the silence between the two finally broken, the one who had not spoken, but only listened, turned her head to her rival, her twin-tails swaying in the breeze across this barren landscape as the words spoken under a timid breath continued.
"A strategy like this of all times...? 'Kazuma has to become Sylvia's weakness.' Because she likes him? —In that sort of way...?"
Clearly distraught over the reasoning of why this strategy was chosen, Megumin leaned more onto her staff as she hid her expression behind the brim of her wizard hat.
"If only I knew Advanced Magic... Maybe he wouldn't need to do this..."
Now on the path of shouldering the blame of fate upon her own back, a verbal hand was extended to keep her from drowning in this sea of despair she was now adrift in.
"Megumin."
Only motioning her head to her rival that she was listening, she spoke not a word in reply. With a look not of pity, but with understanding and compassion, —a look that Yunyun herself had been given by the reason she now was able to stand here, resolute, she spoke with the same confidence that had been gifted to her, to her rival.
"Kazuma-san has faith in your Explosion Magic. That's why he's risking everything with this plan of his."
"— — —"
Unable to argue back, not out of contempt, but uncertainty in her own feelings, Yunyun again channeled what had been bestowed to her.
"Megumin, have you lost faith in your Explosion Magic?"
"—Have you lost faith in YN?"
Aware from what perspective Yunyun was able to inquire and try to revamp Megumin's ambition, the shorter Crimson Demon knew her sharp retort had an inkling of wounded pride to it. After all, she could never remember a time before that Yunyun had been able to stand solidly like this compared to her own stature, which now felt like it was crumbling beneath her.
Aware her reply was rhetorical, Yunyun let Megumin humble herself after a moment of silence, now answering both her own, and Yunyun's questions.
"Clearly not. And neither have I."
More or less with an admittance that not all was lost in terms of her hope that this plan would work, it was now squarely apparent to Yunyun what Megumin's apprehension was from.
It must be from the way she sees Kazuma-san. It might not be much different from how I see YN.
Seeing as Megumin continued to clutch her staff more intensely as the subject of Kazuma was isolated in her worries, Yunyun could only smile warmly at her rival. She herself knew what it was like to feel that way, and what other emotions preceded it. However, if Megumin was now at this point, Yunyun couldn't help but feel a sense of relief on her behalf, knowing what could come next for the two, as what she knew first hand from herself and YN.
From under her breath, inaudible to Megumin, Yunyun spoke.
"Will you tell him how you really feel, I wonder?"
