It was nearly Easter, and it was time for another cooking class for Charlie Brown. Mr. Barber called to attention.
"Welcome, welcome." said Mr. Barber. "As you may well already know, the day of Easter will be upon us."
"Yay! Easter!" Everyone cheered.
"Hence," continued Mr. Barber. "I have a homework assignment for all of you."
"Aw, not a homework assignment!" Everyone in his class groaned.
"This week, your assignment will be to make traditional Easter eggs." said Mr. Barber.
"Yay! Easter eggs!" everyone cheered.
"I hope you all know what to do." Mr. Barber finished.
"Making Easter eggs is easy." said Emerald. "I'll just melt some chocolate and....."
"Not those kinds of easter eggs!" laughed Scarlet. "These are hard boiled eggs which you paint bright colours on."
"Oh." sighed Emerald in disappointment.
"Remember, Marcie." said Peppermint Patty. "You are not to make egg soup. You're not to toast them, bake them, fry them, or waffle them. You have to boil them in a steaming hot pot with the egg shells still on."
"Yes, Sir." said Marcie. "I'll take your advice, Sir."
"For anyone who doesn't know how to boil eggs, I will show you." said Mr. Barber.
"I don't know how." said Charlie Brown.
So Charlie Brown, Marcie, Emerald, Scarlet, Tommy and Frieda gathered round Mr. Barber, who explained how to boil eggs. He showed them to boil a pot at a high but reasonable temperature, and just put the eggs in.
"See?" said Mr. Barber. "Now you try."
Charlie Brown went to his station to practice boiling eggs. He put the pot on the stove, waited for the water to boil, and when the temperature was high enough, he picked up the eggs, cracked them one by one, and placed them in the boiling pot.
"There. I hope this works." said Charlie Brown.
"Hmm.... what smells like egg soup?" wondered Peppermint Patty.
Peppermint Patty walked up to Charlie Brown's cooking station.
"Did you hear what Mr. Barber had said, Chuck?"
Peppermint Patty looked up at the boiling pot of eggs, and saw.....
"CHUCK! YOU MADE EGG SOUP!"
"Oh, good grief! I've done clumsy!" groaned Charlie Brown.
"Are you alright, Charlie Brown?" Heather Wold asked as she approached his cooking station.
Charlie Brown lay there, dazed and confused.
"Peppermint Patty said I made egg soup." groaned Charlie Brown.
"Egg soup?" quizzed Heather.
Heather looked at the pot on the stove and....
"She's right, Charlie Brown." said Heather. "You did make egg soup."
"Oh no...." groaned Charlie Brown.
"You shouldn't have cracked the eggs before putting them in the hot pot." said Heather. "Don't worry. You can try again when you get home."
"Thanks, Heather." sighed Charlie Brown. "I'll do that."
That afternoon, Charlie Brown was walking home. Heather Wold walked along with him, especially since she lived right across the road from him.
"Do you really think I can make traditional easter eggs?" asked Charlie Brown.
