Louis was still in shock when he went to the supermarket after work. Liam was getting married?

Grocery shopping went quickly. A couple of boxes of premade dinners, milk, and cereal, and then he was done. He threw a couple of apples in there as well so he could pretend to be healthy.

A guy blocked him with his shopping cart.
"Excuse me. Coming through." Louis said politely.

The alpha came closer.
"Such a cute omega."

"Fuck off." Louis replied. He tried to turn around but the alpha grabbed his arm.

"Don't be rude. Now, you smell of alpha but you're not mated. A slutty little omega." The alpha smirked.

Louis gasped. He was offended. The alpha cornered him. Louis desperately looked around but they were alone in the aisle.
"Let go of me!"

"I don't think so." The alpha said.

"You heard him. Get the fuck away from him." Someone said behind them.

Louis looked over the alpha's shoulder. Harry was standing behind them looking anything but happy. The alpha backed off and walked away.
"Are you okay?" Harry asked and came up to him.

"Yeah. Are you following me?" Louis asked. He was shaken.

"No. I just happened to be here. Do things like that happen often?" Harry asked, looking concerned.

"You know how it is. Alphas think they're entitled to do whatever they want." Louis shrugged.

"Not all of us." Harry replied dryly.

"Yeah." Louis said, sounding anything but convinced.

Harry just looked at him. Louis took a deep breath.
"Anyway, thanks. I'm gonna pay for me food now."

Harry glanced at his cart. He didn't look impressed.
"You know what? We should start to plan the bachelor party. How about I come over and show you how to make pasta bolognese?"

"I don't have to learn how to cook just because I'm an omega." Louis snorted.

"I'm not offering to teach you how to cook because you're an omega, Louis. I'm teaching you because you need to eat something else than those frozen microwave dinners." Harry said.

Oh. Louis was getting pretty tired of them.
"Alright. Yeah, okay."

They headed to the register after Harry had picked up the ingredients he needed. Louis felt nervous about spending time alone with Harry. Why had he agreed to this?

They took separate cars to his apartment. Harry just followed him inside and headed to the kitchen where he started to unpack the groceries.
"Cutting board?" He asked.

Louis gave him one and Harry found a knife.
"First you wanna chop a yellow onion into small pieces. Do you have another cutting board?" Harry asked.

"Yeah." Louis said and found one

Harry cut the onion in two halves and gave Louis one Louis sighed but he grabbed a knife and went to work. Harry glanced at him.
"Turn the knife around."

Louis blushed.
"I know."

"Of course." Harry said softly. Louis glanced at him. He didn't get the feeling that Harry was making fun of him. That surprised him a little.

He tried his best to chop the onion into small pieces. He had to wipe his eyes a couple of times. Onions always made him tear up. Harry didn't comment on his poor attempt to chop and he appreciated that. He already knew that he sucked at it.

Harry was very patient with him and let him do most of the cooking. When the dish was ready they sat down at the kitchen table. Louis took a bite.
"Wow, this actually tastes amazing." He commented.

"Yeah, good job!" Harry complimented him.

Louis couldn't help but smile.
"Thanks."

"So, do you have any ideas for a bachelor party? I was thinking that we should just throw one for both of them." Harry said as he continued to eat. He discretely pushed a big piece of onion to the side.

"I don't understand why they're in such a hurry to get married. They don't know each other that well." Louis snorted.

"I agree that it's early but they're soulmates. I get why they don't wanna wait." Harry shrugged.

"As an Omega, Zayn is taking a huge risk. Alphas can turn abusive and controlling." Louis argued upset.

Harry stared at him.
"Are you telling me that Liam is that kind of alpha?"

"What? No! Absolutely not! Liam is a sweetheart. He wouldn't be me best friend if he had any of those tendencies." Louis huffed, offended for Liam's sake.

"Thank God for that. I thought I had to go on a rescue mission for a second there. So what are you telling me then? Where does this come from? I'm not that kind of alpha either, Louis. I hope you know that by now." Harry said softly.

"I didn't mean you. Me father was that kind of alpha." Louis said quietly.

"Oh. I'm so sorry to hear that. Is your mum still with him?" Harry asked.

"No. She got away from him when I was two. He kept harassing her for years and I mean, she's mated to him. He can still hurt her from a distance. Every time he's screwing someone else and she has to take medicine to cope with the absence of his alpha scent, you know what I mean? She has a new alpha now. They're not soulmates but they're happy together anyway. Mark's soulmate died." Louis said. Why was he telling Harry all of this?

"I'm so sorry your mum has to cope with all of that." Harry said compassionately.

"Yeah." Louis sighed.

"Thanks for telling me. I understand you much better now. Just... your mum's experience is horrible but that doesn't mean that the same thing will happen to you." Harry said.

"I fucking hope not!" Louis snorted.

They stared at each other. The unspoken truth was hanging in the air and Louis' brain was repeating a mantra "Don't say it. Don't say it. Don't say it."

Harry didn't say it. Louis was thankful for that. He wasn't ready to face the truth. Not yet. Maybe not ever.
