hogwarts au; this story will take place throughout all of the years
First Year
Hermione whipped her tears away, and went to go read outside by the Black Lake.
She leaned against the tree, and started to read. Her sadness seemed to melt away, and her anxiety wasn't as unbearable.
"What are you doing?" A voice asked.
Hermione looked up to see a blond haired boy looking down at her with curiosity in his eyes. "I'm sorry, I'm reading."
"I know that. But it's lunch time, what are you doing out here?"
"Well, don't laugh, but...I don't have any friends. Everyone in my House makes fun of me." Hermione admitted.
"Oh. I'm sorry, you don't seem like you deserve to be bullied."
"What's your name?"
"My name is Draco Malfoy. I'm a Slytherin, pureblood. What's yours?"
"I'm Hermione Granger. I'm a Gryffindor, muggleborn," she said, introducing herself just like Draco did. He looked at her funny for a second before she started talking again. "Did you know your name means dragon? It's in the stars."
"I did. I think it's cool. And did you know your name is a form of the messenger god, Hermes? Or possibly his wife?"
Hermione smiled. "I didn't know that, actually."
Draco sat next to her and pulled out a book. "Since you were honest with me why you were out here, the reason I'm out here is because I didn't want my friends to catch me reading."
"So I'm out here because of bullies and no friends, and you're out here because you don't want to be judged by your friends. We make quite the pair."
Draco smiled. "We do, Hermione Granger."
"Well, this can be our reading tree. No judgement."
"That sounds wonderful."
Second Year
Draco knew she was going to kill him. She knew what it meant. He didn't mean it, he didn't mean to make her cry.
He made his way over to the tree. Of course, Hermione was over there, rubbing her eyes.
"Granger, are you okay?"
"What the hell do you want, Malfoy? What do you want with a filthy little mudblood?"
"Granger, I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean it. There's no good excuse why I called you that, but I really didn't mean it. My parents think that your kind—"
"My kind? Malfoy, what century is this? Nobody but Slytherins care about blood status."
"My parents don't like you. They don't like mudbloods, but I don't care about that."
Hermione sighed. "Look, Malfoy, I don't really care. I really don't. Just leave me alone, let me read in peace."
Malfoy sat down in front of her. "Please forgive me, Granger."
"Whatever, just leave me alone." Hermione rolled her eyes, but bit her lip to hid a smile.
Draco took that as his forgiveness and pulled out a book. "You're the best, Granger."
Hermione smirked. "I know."
