"What do you mean it wasn't an animal attack?" Victoria questioned Wednesday as she laid on Enid's bed, sitting straight up. "Are you a psychic?"
Sheriff Galpin had just announced another death to the press, enforcing more outrageous protocols in Nevermore. Wednesday had disappeared for a few hours during Outreach Day after talking to Tyler-which she didn't get to eavesdrop on until Wednesday was then filling her in.
She didn't speak to him much after the interaction with Blaise-she was too afraid he'd find out the person she used to be.
She was most afraid that he'd begin to investigate and find those videos of her somewhere on the internet. She'd have to move continents instead of schools if that ever happened to her. But she decided to not test the waters, avoiding his messages.
Apparently, a few hours after the memorial statue of Crackstone was suddenly set ablaze (much credibility to Thing), a homeless man named Fabian was attacked by an animal.
Sheriff Galpin had no way to point the blame on the school as much as he wanted to because all of the Nevermore students had already been gone.
"Yes, actually, she's psychic," Enid said. "Awesome isn't it?"
"There's nothing awesome about being psychic," Wednesday said grumpily. "I often wonder if this gift was passed onto my younger brother, perhaps then he'd learn to toughen up and I wouldn't be here in the first place."
"So have you got any clues yet on what the monster is?" Victoria asked.
Wednesday looked irritated by defeat as she proclaimed, "No idea. But Thing and I are planning a little trip to the morgue. Eugene's been a bit of help, I must say, more help than I anticipated. But there is one thing that's been on my mind since Rowan got killed."
"What's that?"
"Rowan's wallet," Wednesday said calmly. "It's nowhere to be found and as far as I know, you're the last person who had it."
And as far as Victoria knew, Tyler was the last one who had it. But she didn't know how she could bring it up to Wednesday. After all, she wasn't confident whether Tyler had returned it to him or not.
"You're right..." Victoria said with a long thought. "Do you suppose whoever tampered the scene also took the evidence? Along with Rowan's body..."
Enid shivered at the thought. "Okay, you guys are giving me the heebie jeebies."
"For the last time, Enid, heebie jeebies don't exist," Wednesday said as Thing agreed. Wednesday turned to Victoria and said, "Well, I've figured out why Rowan had that mask."
"Why's that?"
"It was some ridiculous club he was a part of called the Nightshades. Nothing special about it, except for the fact that Rowan got kicked out last summer. Xavier and Bianca are in it, as far as I know, along with a handful of other wannabes." Wednesday said. "They tried to kidnap me when I entered their hideout, but they're poorly skilled when it comes to the art of mischief. It's a wonder they're not disbanded yet."
Victoria and Enid shared a short grin with this information as she wondered why Xavier had never mentioned this club before. But then again, it was a secret.
"What of the unused polaroid films?" Victoria asked. "I figured they'd be pretty irrelevant if they weren't hidden from sight though."
Wednesday nodded and said, "Thing went back to look for the camera that went along with them. Found no traces of it though, which is strange."
"Which means whoever tampered with Rowan's death also took his camera," Victoria said, putting the pieces together.
"We've got two mysteries," Wednesday said. "Solving who killed Rowan and who hid it."
