"What is this place?" Harry asked
"I think this is a graveyard." Hermione suggested.
"No. This is not a graveyard. It's a chess board." Pansy pointed out.

The entire area lit up revealing giant chess pieces on each side of the board

"Look! There's the door!" Draco pointed out.

They all headed but are stopped by the pawns who are guarding the entrance.

"How are we going to get through?" Harry questioned it
"It's obvious. We're going to have to play the game in order to get through. Alright. Harry, you take the empty bishop's square. Hermione, you take the Queen side's castle. And Draco, you'll be a knight." Pansy suggested and planned out
"But what about you?" Hermione asked her.
"I'll stand behind all call out each moves." Pansy tells them

Each of the 3 took their spot and Pansy went to the back of their side of the board.

"Well, what happens next?" Hermione asked again.
"A white pawn goes, and then...we play." Draco answered her question

A white pawn makes its first move.

"Pansy, this isn't going to be exactly like...real Wizard's Chess?" Hermione asked her friend

Pansy points to a pawn.

"You there! D-5." Pansy called out

The black pawn moves to its spot, and it gets sliced by the other pawn destroying it which causes the others to look in shocked.

"Yes. Unfortunately, Hermione. It's going to be exactly like Wizard's Chess." Pansy commented
"Well, we got to keep playing no matter what." Draco informs her

The game resumed with each individual pieces getting crushed and destroyed

"Castle to E-3!" Pansy called out

More pieces are getting wrecked

"Pawn to D-3!"

More and more are getting destroyed by every move Pansy makes leaving with the Queen to defend its territory.

"You know what happens next, Harry. Once Pansy makes this move, the Queen will take me. Which will leave you free to check the King." Draco tells him.
"No. Draco, no!" Harry refused
"What is it?" Hermione asked in worried.
"Draco is going to sacrifice himself."
"No, you can't! There's must be another way!"
"Hermione, do you want to stop You-Know-Who from getting that stone or not?" Draco reminded her.

He then turned to Harry.

"Harry, you're the only one who can do this. And it's you who'll make that move. Not me, not Hermione, not even Pansy, but you." Draco encouraged him

Harry nodded realizing that he is right. Draco then held on the reins of the statue horse

"Go ahead." He tells Pansy

She takes a deep breath and calls it out

"Knight to H-3." Pansy called out

Draco felt the piece move on its own leading him to the spot where he knows he needs to be so they can win. He looks straight at the king piece

"Check." He said to himself

The queen then turns and heads towards Draco's position. As it draws nearer to him, Draco starts to feel scared but puts on a brave face. The Queen stops, takes it sword, and stabs the horse causing him to fall backwards

"AAH!" He screams as he falls and he is knocked out
"DRACO!" Harry shouted

Hermione started to move.

"NO! DON'T MOVE!" Harry warned her
"He's right. We're still playing." Pansy reminded Hermione

Hermione stayed in her place. Harry then makes his move towards to the King.

"Checkmate." He proclaimed to the king

The sword under the King's hands fell out declaring that they have won the game. All 3 rush over to the unconscious Slytherin.

"Send an owl and inform Dumbledore on what has happened. Draco is right. I have to do this alone." Harry tells the girls
"You'll be okay, Harry. You're a great wizard." Hermione tells her friend.
"Not as good as you and Pansy."

Both girls blushed.

"Harry, we care about our friendship with you and Draco." Pansy tells him
"And Harry, do be careful." Hermione pleaded with him.

Harry nodded. He looks at Draco one more time. He then stands and walks passed the wreckage of the chess game. Hermione looks at him worried.

"Do come back, Harry." Hermione quietly said as she sees her friend walk pass the door.
