Its like every morning, i wake up at 6:00 and put on some running clothes. I leave my apartment and run to the coffee shop thats 2 miles away, even though there is some closer. I order my usual medium black coffee and a raspberry danish then find a seat outside.
Today was different though.
After i sat, and pulled my phone out a random guy, who looked familiar but i know ive never met him, sat a crossed from me. A few strange people were following him with a camera, which wasn't abnormal since we were in LA but at the same time it was. Mostly because this person was sitting across from me, as if we have known each other for years.
Then to add to the awkwardness he put his hand across the table and touched mine. I was to embarrassed to speak. Hes attractive, long dark curly hair, a few visible tattoos, sunglasses, black ripped tee shirt and jeans, black doc martens, and his body was extremely slender.
"Hello" he said, with a very thick british accent.
"Um.. Hello." I tried to speak as i would usually. Then I mumbled just enough for him to hear me. "Who are you? And why are you holding my hand in front of strangers with cameras?"
"Oh, sorry about this. Im Matty, and theyre stalking me. I needed a reason to get off the street till they left." He chuckled a bit. "I thought you looked open minded so, I decided to sit here and maybe it would shoo them off. But as you can tell theyre persistent fuckers" he said amused and annoyed all at once.
"Oh, well a warning would've been quite alright, you frightened me. I can go inside with you to maybe stifle them a bit more" I know im to kind, what if he gets the wrong idea? I mean he is attractive and all but, i have a boyfriend so it would be strange.
"Alright darling, lead the way." He said this loud enough for them to hear, before getting up and helping me out of my chair.
We walked inside, he then ordered a drink and sat in the seat i chose, far from all windows.
I know i look like hell so I'm slightly pissed off about the pictures.
"Thank you so much, i really owe you." He said before sipping what ever he ordered, then pulled his sunglasses up to the top of his head, revealing dark bags under his beautiful eyes.
"Oh yeah, of course. You looked like you needed help. So stalkers you say?" I chuckle.
"If they recognize me, they follow, if they follow they dont stop, its flattering but pisses me off." Then he got up from his chair across the table and and sat in the booth right next me. He smelled of cigarettes, aftershave, marijuana, and wine. "I never caught your name" he whispers and smirks.
After i catch my breath from his proximity, i speak. "Juliette, but i prefer Julie" i whisper back in the same tone.
"Okay Juliette, as i said before I'm Matty, well Matthew, but i prefer Matty. Its been a pleasure meeting you." He smirks again, its quite adorable.
"Alright Matthew, I should get home i have work in 2 hours, thank you for the entertainment this morning"
"Maybe i could walk you home, love?"
"If youre okay with 2 miles, in those boots let go" i said as i began getting up.
"Would you maybe prefer a ride?" He asks smugly, "im parked a block that way."
"Oh, sure. Lets go."
We began walking down the sidewalk after the amount of people by the door died down, there was still 2 people following, asking him to smile and asking who i was. By my surprise he pulled me to his side then whispered.
"Sorry, just look ahead and dont say anything" he said obviously aggravated.
When we got to his car which was an old black mustang, he unlocked the door on my side then opened his.
"Are the picture they took going anywhere?" I asked knowing that we looked a little too close in all of them.
He laughed and said, "probably not, and if they are you look amazing, so dont get worked up over your appearance" he continued laughing and pulled out into the traffic.
"Im not worried about my appearance, more about my boyfriends take on our proximity in the pictures." I cleared my throat. "I dont think he would be too happy that a strange, im guessing celebrity put his arm around me."
He laughed again, but nervously. "You could've told me that, love. I can almost promise he wont know that my vile hands touched your delicate body. Im no celebrity, i sing a little, and a lot of teenagers think I'm hot, but no one cares that Matty Healy was with some gorgeous girl in some cafe, in the middle of the city at 6am."
"Turn right here i live in the building on the corner, and if someone does care where you are what do i say?"
"Tell him im a friend or your a fan or something, i think your smart enough to figure something out."
"I cant say I'm a fan if i have no idea who you are"
"Then don't, but heres my number if you ever want to know, id sure like to know about you."
I was distracted momentarily by the view of the hollywood sign, slightly visible from my apartment. Ive lived here 3 years and i still havent gotten even slightly close to it.
I hear Matty clear his throat, "distracted?"
"I suppose i am, apologies" i say blushing
"What were you staring at in particular? If you dont mind my asking." Sounding genuine.
I smile, "The Hollywood sign, ive always been in love with it" when i tear my eyes away from the view i see Matty staring at me, so I take the receipt that he wrote his number on, smile and open his car door. Fish my keys out of my wallet and open the apartment building door, then wave as he pulls back out into the traffic.
What the fuck just happened.
