We walk down the steps and we are immediately greeted with my dog.
"Dog? You never told me about a dog." Matty laughs and pets her. "Her name?" He asks in the cutest tone.
"Coco. I never really thought it was important." I giggle and start walking to the kitchen where my parents are.
"Juliette!" My dad shouts and comes and hugs me. I feel so at home, so happy. He pulls away and looks Matty up and down."And you're Matty?" He extends his hand and shakes it.
"Hello." Matty says nervously.
"He's english?" My mom exclaims, "you never told me!"
"You yelled at me the second I walked in, so don't act like a fucking saint." I laugh.
"J, stop" Matty whispers and nudges me.
"Its alright." My dad mumble. "Come sit." He says loud enough for my mom to hear and leads us to the back porch.
I reach into Matty's pocket and take out his cigarettes. I pull two from the carton and hand one to Matty who gladly takes it.
"Do you mind?" I ask my dad.
"Only if I don't get one." He laughs and puts his hand out. "Matty, sorry my wife is so, rude." He frowns a bit.
"It's quite alright. As long as I can keep her together this week all will be just fine." He laughs and lights my cigarette, then his.
"Good luck. I cant even hold her back." My dad nods to me and I blush furiously.
"Stop it. Im not an animal." I giggle and take a drag.
"Agree to disagree." Matty smirks and puts his arm around my shoulder.
"So how did you two meet?" My mom says snidely as she walks out the door.
"Matty had some photographers following him past the cafe I was at, and he sat with me to save himself." I laugh and flick my ashes onto the ground.
"True romance." Matty laughs and kisses my temple.
"Why were photographers following you?" My dad asks cluelessly.
"Im slightly famous i suppose." He shrugs and puts his cigarette out.
"For what?" My mom asks.
"Im the singer in my band." He says and circles his finger on my shoulder. "I still don't believe were popular, but our fans would beg to differ." He laughs.
"Oh that's interesting." My mom nods. "Julie will you join me in the kitchen." My mom smiles and steps inside.
I kiss Matty on the cheek.
"Just talk about 80's rock music. You'll be fine." I whisper into his ear.
I quickly walk into the house and close the door.
"So your smoking cigarettes now?" My mom asks from the stove.
I hop up onto the island and swing my feet a bit.
"Im 23, you can't stop me." I sigh and pick at my nails.
She turns around quickly.
"Im still your mother. What happened to that nice boy Jackson?" She asks.
"He called me a whore because the press took a photo of me and Matty walking. His arm was around me and we had visible hickeys. So Jackson assumed I was cheating, so we broke up and I went out with Matty." I explain, still picking at my nail polish.
"How long have you two been together?" She asks.
"Like a week." I laugh at how stupid that sounds. "I've known him for two, he took me to the hollywood sign on our first date." I smile at the fowl memory.
