Chapter 9

Days and days went past but I couldn't find the strength to move from my bed, not even to shower or to eat, the memory was to strong embedded in my brain of what he did. They called him the true king, the master of all men, but he makes decisions that are unjust and unruly.

Rynar had shown me kindness and respect throughout my duration on the ship, he had shown me sights that I would never have seen had it not been for him. He helped cure my home sickness with remedies of laughter and joy. And all that had gotten him was punishment, punishment for being kind.

There was another knock at the door that disrupted me from my thoughts, the knocks had been occurring every hour of the day sometimes accompanied with voices that where to low to distinguish who they are. But I couldn't move, wouldn't move regardless of who they are.

This time it was different, the door clicked open and footsteps entered the apartment. Someone had used a spare key to allow them to enter. My heart fluttered with panic and I wanted to try and escape but I couldn't move, it is like I am paralysed. The bedroom slowly opens and the soft voice of Bethany rings out. "I am coming in Z." She says as the door opens fully revealing the faces of both Beth and Ivy. They are dressed in the same grey uniform as before however Bethany's is tighter than it had been only a week earlier. Their faces looked concerned as they observe me lying bed.

They where right to stare, my hair was a dirty matted mess that was tied up on my head, my eyes are hollow pits from days of restless nights. The smell from my body was hazardous but I do not care. The two of them do not say anymore as they climb into the bed with me pulling me into a tight embrace. "We are sorry Z." Beth says as she hugs me tighter, I want to cry but there are no tears left. "We have been trying to get in, but you didn't answer. Zyrrokul told me what happened.." She trailed of not knowing what to say next. Ivy sits quietly next to me, her face a mixture of sadness and worry I can see her thinking of what to say, but nothing leaves her mouth. We sit in silence for a while, as I gaze out the small window. Over the past few days I have done to much thinking, and there are no more thoughts left in my head.

"You know what he told me?" I say causing the girls to look at me raising their eyebrows.

"No who?" Ivy asks as I place my head onto her shoulder.

"Targriss, he told me that it is all a lie. Everything they have told us, about how great the planet is and the future that it holds. All of it is a lie." I say emotionlessly. "They have no technology, no schools for our children, and probably beds of hay to sleep on." The girls do not know how to respond as they continue to stare at me. "Zyrrokul must have told you about his planet."

Bethany thinks for a moment about how she is going to respond. "He tells me bits and I try and piece it together." She says as I stare at brown eyes, she bites her lip before continuing. "He tells me about the wards that they fight in, about how very few are against against the monsters that they tell us about in lessons. Most are with the roghes they used to be slaves that gathered together to fight for a better life, but as the years went on and the group grew bigger more warriors and leaders joined. Their women are not dying like the others, they have thousands of children that join the fight when they are aged eight. These children do not know what they are even fighting for, they just know that if they do not fight they will be killed by the hands of their fathers." She states as I stare at her.

"The masters that we breed with, they kill these children?" I ask as the strong taste of sick starts to arise in my throat once more.

"They are working to overthrow the king and queen, and the masters role is to protect them even if it does mean killing children." She pauses as I take a deep inhale of breath. "But from what I have gathered most of these children are gathered and sent to our camps where they are looked after until they are of a proper fighting age to join us." There was a pause as we all take in the information that she has just shared.
