"How long have you been working here?" Lily asked Jennifer as they sat for breakfast one morning.
"Let's see, it'll be ... two years actually this month. Wow, I didn't even realize that." Jennifer said. "Time flies."
"What did you do before this?"
"I worked at the local aquarium working the touch tank."
"That's a pretty big leap."
"You're telling me."
"How did you come by the job?"
"My uncle," Jennifer said, "he's a big business man in the oil industry. Masrani Global deals in oil as well, they had a few connections and Uncle Derek put my name into the mix. Boom, game changer."
"Do your parents like that you're working here?"
"Yeah, they were pretty excited." she said. "What about yours? I bet they were thrilled."
"My father, yeah...my mother not so much."
"What? Why not?"
Lily sat with her tea in her hands. "My mother doesn't believe that paleontology is a real career field."
"Wha- are you serious?"
"Yeah, she can be a bit of cow sometimes. She told me when I went to uni that she wouldn't help me financially if I didn't choose another major. Turns out I didn't need her money."
Jennifer grinned. "Suck on that!"
Lily chuckled. "Yeah," her smile faded, " I did okay on my own for awhile, but when the economy went to shit, I had to move back home. That just gave my mother more ammo."
"Well, forget about her, people know who you are here and that's all that matters." Jennifer said getting up and getting the toast she was making from the toaster.
The two women stared at the burnt toast in her hands.
"Just put some jam on it..." Lily suggested.
Jennifer brought Lily to the Mosasaurus arena that early afternoon. Lily watched the large aquatic carnivore swim around in the underwater observatory.
"She's beautiful." Lily said.
"Yeah, she's a majestic bitch." Jennifer scoffed. Lily pushed her playfully.
"Be nice."
Jennifer stuck her tongue out at her.
"How much water is in there?" Lily asked.
"Three million gallons."
"Must have taken forever to fill it up with buckets."
"Ages....smartass." She pulled on Lily's arm. "Let's get some lunch."
"This is not what I had in mind when I said lunch." Jennifer said as Lily happily ate ice cream. She looked at Jennifer with the spoon in her mouth.
"I didn't say you had to get ice cream."
Jennifer rolled her eyes before she became tense focused on something. Lily waved her hand in her face.
"Jennifer? 'Ello? What the bloody hell are you looking at?" Lily looked across the way to see Lowery standing in line to get a hot dog.
"Oooh I see."
Jennifer snapped out of it looking at her. "See what?" she said becoming suddenly busy with a button on her shirt.
"See what?! You were totally checking out Cruthers, you ham."
