Lily sat down on the evacuation boat sitting in between Owen and Jennifer. She scanned the faces of crying tourists who covered in scratches and bruises holding on to one another. They had all come to the island for an unforgettable family vacation. It would certainly unforgettable.
All these families would be scarred for the rest of their life with the image of attacking dinosaurs. And for what? What had InGen accomplished? What did Dr. Wu accomplish? Nothing. They had gone back to the lab to grab him to bring his ass to justice but upon arrival the bastard was long gone.
She looked off the boat and frowned. "What about Hopper and Toothless? They can't fend for themselves like the others can." she said to Owen.
"There are workers remaining on the island in order to do a clean up."
"I don't like the sound of a clean up." she said.
Owen didn't say anything more as he pulled her into his side and rested his head upon hers. She glanced out of the corner of her eye and saw Lowery holding onto Jennifer's hand. She gave a small grin, at least something good came out of the whole ordeal.
The boat finally left to Costa Rica where they were given a place similar to a bunker where families would be able to find their scattered members and receive medical attention.
"We need to get that ankle checked out first." Owen said as he hoisted her up. One of the medical professionals walked over and examined it.
"It is broken unfortunately." the woman said," but we can get it wrapped up while you're here and get those cuts cleaned and patched."
Lily gripped Owen's hand as the bandages were wrapped around her ankle to keep herself from yelling out or kicking the woman in the face. Her cuts burned as they were disinfected and she had several wraps all over.
"I look like a bloody mummy." she muttered.
"A cute one." Owen said poking her nose.
She smiled. "You ought to get your wounds looked at as well." she said.
"Nah, I'm good. I'm Owen Grady, remember?"
"Lest we forget."
"Lily!" she heard her named being called. Her head shot up.
"Dad?!"
She saw Harold running through the maze of people as she pushed herself up to her feet.
"Lily!" he grabbed her into a tight hug. "Oh thank goodness, you're alright." he said holding her.
"Dad, what...what are you doing here?"
"Your friend Winston called me, told me bad things were happening on the island. I got on the first flight here." he told her. She glanced over at Winston who gave her a wink. She mouthed a silent thank you to him before looking back to her father.
"Is Mum with you?" she asked, but she wished she hadn't as her father's face fell.
"She couldn't be bothered to get out of bed, I'm afraid." he frowned.
"It's okay, it's not a big deal. I'm just so happy to see you!" she said hugging him again.
"You don't understand how happy I am to see you're alright...well.." he peered down at her ankle and her bandaged body.
"Trust me it's not as bad as it looks." she reassured him. He didn't look convinced but his eyes went past her and landed on Owen.
"You must be Owen." he said stretching out his hand. Owen seemed surprised by the warm greeting.
"Uh yes, nice to meet you Mr. Goodwin."
"Please call me Harold. No need formalities. You kept my daughter safe and she's said nothing but nice things about you. That's a friend in my book."
Owen grinned. "Well, thank you Harold."
"Not a problem, my boy."
While the men spoke, Lily watched as an older man and women came in.
"Todd!" they called. "Todd!"
Lily felt her heart sink in her chest. They ran over to a worker with a clipboard that had the names of everyone present in the bunker. The man shook his head to the people looking over the sheets of paper. Lily moved away from Owen and her father and hobbled over to them.
"Mr. and Mrs. York?" she asked.
The couple looked at her. "Yes?"
"I'm Lily Goodwin. I was a friend of your son, Todd."
The woman began crying automatically assuming the worst.
"I'm so sorry." she said, she had no idea what to say. She had been there when Todd died but she didn't think they would want to know the gruesome details that led to his death.
"Was he alone when it-" Mr. York couldn't get the rest of his sentence out. Lily shook her head.
"No, he wasn't alone. I was with him. He..." what could she say that would offer any comfort to the parents. "...he died a hero." she said.
Mr. York nodded with a sincere smile as his wife sobbed into him. "Thank you." he said.
She nodded her head watching them walk away. She wondered if Zara's family was going to show up. How would they react?
Two people who didn't even directly work with the dinosaurs were dead and many others were as well.
Sure, the park would close but would it offer any consolation to the grieving families?
She doubted it.
She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see Owen watching the couple in the distance.
"Todd's parents." she said.
He grimaced before holding her.
"We're getting ready to leave." he said. "Your father invited Jennifer and Lowery back to a hotel to rest for the night. You need your rest." he said.
She fretted at the thought of sleep because every time she closed her eyes all she could see was the Indominus Rex.
