Maenya POV

Driftmark was cold, not just the weather but the people too.

Lady Laena's funeral was awful.

Her two young daughters were crying and the crowd was split up into people who were devastated over her death or people who would rather be somewhere else.

Precisely why I didn't Invite anyone to Qoren's funeral.
Harmen was dead and I had left Nymor in charge of Dorne in whilst I was here.

I wore funeral colours as everyone else did, around my neck laid the antler of the white hart.
I had it made into a necklace.
It was the first time I would be seeing my family in ten years and I wanted to make it clear my views on the succession hadn't changed and what other way then to wear the omen of royalty around my neck.

Everyone gazed around as Laena's body was put in a coffin and we all listen to Vaemond's speech.

"we joined today at the seat of the sea to commit the lady Laena of house Velaryon to the eternal waters, the dominion of the Merling King, where he will guard her for the days to come. As if she sets to the sea for her final voyage and Lady Laena leaves two trueborn daughters on the shore. Though their mother will not return from her voyage, they will remain bound together in blood."

He stoped for a second.
Looking at Rhaenyra and her...
"Velaryon" sons

"Salt courses through Velaryon blood. I'll be glad to run thick. Our blood runs true and ours must never thin"

He looked at me now and nodded.
Some sort of symbol of respect or loyalty.

I was confused. I knew my views hadn't changed but surely my ten year absence from court would have weakened my support and claim to the throne in the eyes of others.
I thought when I returned, people would have given into the fact that my younger sister would be queen.

I looked to Otto and Alicent, they both gave me a nod as well, having the same look of the determination on their face.

I felt something rise in me again, these past years have been peaceful and calm, for the most part, and now I was hungry for the throne again.
Everything that had just happened, had reignited a flame in me that had been lost.

A smile worked its way into my features.
All hope was not lost.

Vaemond continued
"My gentle niece, may the winds be as strong as your back, your seas as calm as your spirit and your nets be as full as your heart, from the sea we came, to the sea, We return"
