Jayda's POV
He taps me on my leg "Ready now?"
I look away from the gray wall I was starring blankly at. "Yeh."
The yeh come outs sounding just like I feel bland.
I stand and pull the jeans up since it feels like its falling below my waist. I walk over to closet and retrieve a belt.
This jeans was one of my favorites because it used to fit me like second skin. Used to sidung pan me like me born inna it.
Now it look like a somebody pants me borrow.
How is it possible to lose so much weight in such a short time span.
Caleb is just staring at me, a look of concern printed on his face.
That's the only way he looks at me these days.
Like I'm made of glass, a porcelain doll. Like he's waiting for me to break. To shatter and fall apart.
That's not something I can afford to do. Being a mom doesn't offer the privilege of breaking down.
Yuh affi stay strong when you have tiny people a look up to yuh.
Can imagine me a bawl and dem guh see?
Or me a break down when dem need me.
So me affi stay firm and strong.
I flash him a half smile, one that is fake of course. But he needs reassurance that I'm okay.
He starts to shake his head "Really Jay?"
"Wah?" I shrug.
"Yuh nuh think me know yuh enough fi know when yuh good?" He asks.
I look down at my waist as I push the belt through the loops on the pants as a means of avoiding eye contact. "I'm fine."
He walks over to me and wraps his arm around me. "I love you, you know that right."
I nod, if there is ever anything in this world I'm unsure of it will never be how much he loves me.
Them say nuh put yuh head on the block for man but me can confidently say my man loves me.
"I know." I whisper.
We stand like that - embracing each other for what feels like about thirty minutes but may very well be only three.
It's easy to get lost in your safe space.
And he's that for me, my safe place.
An alarm sounds and he check his apple watch. "Time fi go now."
"Gimmi a minute." I grab a pair of comfortable puma sneakers from the shoes stand and quickly slip it on over my socks cladded feet.
Without me having to say the word he kneels down and starts tying my laces.
Ever girl deserves a love like this. Pure, unfiltered, unconditional love.
I hold my hand out and help him to his feet. He gets up with a groan and I know he's doing it intentionally to make me laugh.
I giggle appeasing him. "Yah get old man."
"When yuh live inna house wid three females it make yuh age twice as fast." He retorts.
Still holding my hand we both walk down the stairs.
I wave hi to my mother in law when I spot her laying on the couch with the twins. One sitting on her chest the other on her belly.
