"A who yah gi three dumpling?"

"But Caleb, me ago put piece a yam wid it?" She retorts.

She digs into the pot and removes another boiled dumpling placing it in the plate. "That good now?"

I look at the size of the dumplings and see that one of them could fit in the middle of my hand. "Add one more yam."

Two bite and me done one a dem dumpling deh.

"Yuh know yuh craven though and when yuh done eat dat yuh still ago come back fi more." She picks up two pieces of yam and places it in the plate. "Yuh want boiled banana too?"

I flash my finger. "A you alone fi eat banana."

She rolls her eyes "Cyan stand yuh."

"Sit me den." I reply "Or sit on me. Either one is fine."

She adds the baked bean and saltfish to the plate. She picks up a fork and places the full plate and the fork in front of me.

I watch as she goes to the fridge and pours a glass of orange juice in a glass and places it beside my food.

I eye her waiting to see if she'll share food for herself but instead she adds water to the kettle and plugs it in.

I pause mid way to bringing a piece of dumpling to my mouth "Yuh nah eat?"

She picks up her phone and sits in front of the chair facing me "Yuh know whenever me cook me cyan eat same time. Is like the aroma a the food full me belly."

I shake my head "Unuh woman cyan eat when unuh done cook cause from the food a cook unuh a nyam."

She flicks her middle finger up "Whatever."

"Don't worry though Jay I'll eat enough for the both of us."

She starts scrolling on her phone. "Nah stop tell yuh say yuh craven."

She covers her face blushing.

Her phone rings and she gives it a side eye  "Them gyal yah nuh have nuttn fi do a dem yard mek dem a call me pan a Sunday morning?"

She answers the phone and voices her exact thoughts. "Unuh nuh have nuttn fi do. Today a sunday and unuh a video call me."
