Sebastian had stood in front of this home before, however the last time, he wasn't holding Maeve's hand but wishing just to see her again one last time.
She stood in front of the door for a few moments before taking a deep breath and using her wand to unlock the door.
"They were ecstatic the day they didn't have to hide a key under a rock for me anymore." She mumbles shoving her wand back into her back pocket.
They walked into the dark home together, Maeve dropping his hand to flick her wand illuminating the room.
"It's a beautiful home." Sebastian tells her quietly.
Maeve turns around looking at him with a small smile.
"It's not much, but it's home." She felt her throat tighten as she utters those words. A home she was never meant to be in. A home that was built on nothing but lies.
They had apparated here straight from Poppy's grans house, so she hadn't had much time to think about her feelings towards the situation.
Despite feeling very confused and hurt, she wasn't sure what else to think at this point. She walks over to the fireplace mantle, all the photos of her child placed along there neatly. Her fingers face the gold frame of her from a muggle school photo when she was just seven years old.
Her heart ached at the little girl smiling back at her, she had no idea what her life would become.
"You know Agnes was right." Sebastian said startling her, his fingers pulling her hair back over her shoulder. His hands rest on her shoulders as he presses his lips to the back of her head. "No matter what the truth, your parents love you."
Her eyes filled with tears as Sebastian reaches out touching the photo of the three of them, the day she got her Hogwarts letter in fifth year. Her mom's eyes crinkled with joy, her dad laughing, and her own large smile.
"Seems so long ago." Maeve sniffles, a single tear rolling down her cheek.
"Hey." Sebastian whispers, he turns her so he can look in her eyes. His hands cradling her face delicately wiping the tear with his thumb. She stares back into his eyes, the comforting warmth and the familiarity of them. "I am here for you. Why don't you go upstairs, run a bath, I will make us some tea."
Maeve wraps her arms around his torso, burying her face into his clothing. Her eyes squeezing shut as he returns the embrace. Sebastian has one hand on the back of her head, his fingers lightly brushing through her hair, the other gripping her close to his body.
She was glad she agreed to let him come, although he didn't give her much choice and perhaps she might not admit aloud, but she was grateful Sebastian Sallow was stubborn. She took in his scent, breathing deeply and releases the embrace.
Offering him a weak smile, she turns to grabs the trunks bringing them upstairs. She opened the door to her bedroom, the feeling of melancholy hitting her.
It had only been a few months since she packed up and moved temporarily to Feldcroft, but being in this room now feels like a life she never lived. Her bed still made, her photos from her childhood still remained. Her desk still scattered with the journals of ancient magic, all the work she did alongside a few ministry officials piled into the leather books.
