Taylor and Travis had been dating in their adult lives for a year, minus the time they dated as teenagers. After they kissed at the high school reunion, everything seemed to make sense again. It was as if time had paused when they broke up and had unpaused when they got back together, almost as if they had jumped back into dating each other in high school. They learned new things that had changed about the other over the years and only fell more in love with each other.
Travis was sitting with Taylor by the creek, watching the water drift by.
"Trav?", Taylor asked.
"Mhmm?", Travis hummed, laying his head against her chest as Taylor sat on his lap.
"I love you", she said. They had said it before to each other, but it still made him smile.
"I love you too, baby", he smiled, pecking his cheek.
A moment of silence passed as Taylor ran her fingers through his hair.
"My fingers are cold", Taylor said randomly as the sun began to set.
Travis gave her a quizzical look. "Oh, let me hold them for you", he said, kissing her hand.
"Still cold", she observed.
"What do you mean Tay?", Travis asked, confused.
"Well, my other fingers are fine but this finger in particular is absolutely freezing", Taylor said as she gestured to her left ring finger. She continued. "The only thing that I feel could make it warm again is, I don't know, maybe a ring?".
Taylog got off Travis's lap and went to dip her feet into the water on the creek as she sat on the edge.
Travis sat there, dumbfounded. Taylor had totally suggested that he buy her an engagement ring. He couldn't just let her pretend like that didn't happen and chill by the creek as normal.
"Tay?", Travis asked, sitting beside her.
Taylor looked up at him.
"You can't just leave after dropping that on me".
"Well, what else was I supposed to do? I mean, we've known each other since our moms were pregnant with us, so we've known each other for 22 years. Plenty of time to get to know each other. And if we love each other then why not?", explained Taylor, tossing a rock in the creek.
Travis huffed softly, wrapping his arm around his girlfriend. "Tay, baby, you know how much I love you. I love you more than anything. The only problem is I don't have enough money right now. But, yes, that is definitely a priority. My parents have been great examples of how to have a successful marriage, so I've always grown up with those same intentions. You're my person, so it only feels natural", Travis answered, taking Taylor's hand in his.
"Awe, Trav. Yes, I'll marry you", Taylor said, a tear sliding down her cheek.
"Tay, I haven't proposed to you yet. Hold that thought", Travis chuckled, hugging her.
"Shut up, Kelce. You're ruining the moment", Taylor mumbled against his neck.
Suddenly, the sound of giggling footsteps approached. Taylor turned around to see Austin with his new girlfriend, Paris. He had her pressed up against a tree and was kissing her neck.
"Austin Scott Swift!", Taylor screeched, forgetting the intimate moment she had just shared with Travis and going to her little brother. Even though he was back for the summer from college, he would always be her baby brother.
