Travis had arranged for him and Taylor to rent out an apartment in downtown Kansas City. While it was beautiful and fancy due to Travis's paycheck, it was much more crowded and big than anything they had grown up with.
However, living together full time helped them set up a more consistent system in their relationship. For instance, Taylor cooked dinner on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday because those were the days that Travis had late practice until 9. Travis's days to cook dinner were on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, but due to his limited cooking abilities Taylor most of the time voluntarily stepped in to cook. She couldn't stomach more chicken nuggets.
While on a call with her mom, Taylor stood at the stove of their pretty kitchen preparing dinner. She was making peanut butter glazed salmon, something she'd been craving all day.
"Miss you too, Mom", Taylor said into the phone.
"Bye now", Andrea responded, pressing the end call button.
Suddenly, Travis opened black front door. He saw Taylor and snook up on her from behind.
"Hey there cutie", Travis said. He snaked his arms around her middle and nuzzled his face into her neck, kissing it. Travis's hair was wet from the locker room showers and he solely wore a white tank top and red Chiefs athletic shorts. He had been particularly tired because the rookie always had to do double the exercise in practice to 'catch up' even though it was still spring training.
"Trav, stop", Taylor breathed, feeling him kiss the sweet spot of her neck.
"What's that?", Travis whispered seductively. He edged his hips closer to her, squishing her closer to the stove as his grip tightened around her middle.
"I said stop!", stormed Taylor. She wasn't sure why she raised her voice like she had. Travis was only being playful. It was like her emotions had gone from happy to be eating her favorite meal to a more 'everybody hates me' mood.
"Jeez, I'm sorry. I'm sorry", retreated Travis, backing away as soon as she raised her voice.
Taylor huffed, flipping the chicken on the pan.
"Taylor?", Travis asked from a good distance in the room. He had turned the TV on and was sipping a beer.
"What do you want? What can I do for you? It feels like all I do is stay at home all day cleaning and writing extensive articles for the New York Times and you just march on in here, plop on the couch and drink beer on our brand new white couch", Taylor huffed. While she had felt all those things, she had felt the sudden urge to show her anger to Travis in a raised voice instead of having a discussion.
"Hey, hey", Travis said in a soothing voice. He approached her but didn't touch her, raising his hands up to his shoulders to show he surrendered.
"What's bothering you, sweets?", Travis asked, leaning against the counter.
Taylor felt tears well up in her eyes. She shook her head, continuing to flip the chicken. "It's nothing", she mumbled, sniffling back tears. One tear slid down her cheek and landed on a piece of chicken.
"Are you sure?", Travis asked. Care and concern laced his voice.
Taylor nodded, not looking at him. "Yeah, I'm fine", Taylor insisted.
She transferred the chicken to a serving plate, a few more tears making their way out of her eyes.
"Baby", Travis said. At this point, he was genuinely worried about his girlfriend's emotional state.
"It's nothing", Taylor mumbled, setting the table.
"Oh, I've got it", Travis offered, grabbing two forks and two napkins.
The couple sat down at the bar stools because they didn't have enough company to use their dining room.
Taylor picked at the peanut butter chicken she had so badly been craving earlier and picked at it. She wanted to shove it all in her mouth but she didn't want to freak Travis out; that is, if he wasn't already.
Travis took a bite of the chicken. "Honey, this is so good", Travis complemented, briefly kissing her cheek. He was just grateful that she let him touch her in general. Her skin felt so good under her lips.
"Thanks", she said softly. She took a bite of her chicken, feeling part of her cravings being fulfilled. She took another bite, swallowing quickly. She practically inhaled it, immense amounts of pleasure satisfying her cravings.
Travis looked at her from the corner of his eye. He smiled to himself. At least she was eating.
Once Taylor went back for thirds and finished it, they placed their plates in the sink.
"Did you like dinner?", Travis asked, trying to not be too obvious. She obviously loved her dinner; she had inhaled it. Travis was just feeling risky.
"Yeah, it was good", Taylor agreed.
After Travis did the dishes, the couple sat together on the couch as an episode of Gilmore Girls played on the TV.
Travis sighed, gathering his courage. "Tay?", he asked placing a hand on her thigh.
"Yeah", she asked him, looking at him with her baby blue eyes.
"Is everything alright? If you don't want to tell me then I completely understand. But I would love to listen. I'm worried about you, baby", Travis said softly, making eye contact with his hazel green eyes.
"I think it's just the move and change of lifestyles. I mean, I've never lived with anybody before except for my roommate back in New York and my parents. It's just a lot of change", Taylor answered.
Travis nodded. "I understand. I know this move hasn't been easy on you. You had your whole life back in Pennsylvania and I'm so sorry for moving you", Travis said sincerely.
"No, are you kidding? I wanted to move with you. I didn't want to go long distance and I chose this because it's what I wanted. It's just new", Taylor said, taking his hand into hers.
The feel of his rough, strong hand in hers sent shivers down her spine. She had never been turned on by something so small before.
That night, they cuddled in bed.
"I love you", Taylor whispered sleepily against his chest.
"I love you more Tay. More than you'll ever know", Travis whispered, about asleep himself but keeping himself awake for the sake of watching Taylor fall into night's cradle.
