when the wolves call

a day with the wolves

*Roni pov*

I walk Kion to priderock and say, "Tell me if you need anything." He says, "Okay, thanks, Roni." I smile at him and say, "No problem, Kion." Before walking out and walking to my cave.

I may seem super nice, but there's more to me than that. For starters, I'm usually very quiet and shy, I try and be friendly, but while living on the border, I stuck with my few friends. I'm vegetarian also, so that didn't help me with meeting people since I don't hunt.

Eventually, all my friends left to other places, so I was all alone. I started talking with hyenas in the outlands, which ultimately led to my scar. I was walking through the outlands when I accidentally scared a cobra who pounced and scarred my left eye.

I knew it was bad, so I went to the tree of life to get healed. I was worried I would turn evil. Luckily, Nirmala helped me cure it mostly. But sometimes, it still takes control, and I lose my temper.

I stayed in the tree of life for a while, but I decided to try and live in the pridelands, and then I met Kion, and I knew I had to help him.

After tonight's events, I don't know what is going on. I think he's making the right decision. He shouldn't have to live like this. But I don't know where I fit in, I feel a connection to him. It's sibling-esque, like I should be protecting him.

*Kion pov*
The next morning, I woke up to Kiara poking me in the side. I roar at her, and she says, "Dammit, you're still alive." I say, "F*ck off Kiara." She says, "Who do you think you're talking to." I say, "You heard me." She says, "Apparently, you need another lesson." She pounces on me, but I scratch her face.

She scoffs and says, "Oh, you're dead." She scratches me a few times before finally I punch her, and she yells, "Daddy!" I run out and straight into the outlands. I'm already halfway there by the time I hear Simba roar.

*Fuli pov*
As we're waiting to start patrol, we see Kion running towards the outlands, followed by Simba roaring. Bunga says, "Maybe he's finally leaving." I growl at him and say, "Shut up, Bunga." He says, "What? The pridelands would be better without him." I say, "What the f*ck Bunga. You're supposed to be his best friend, and you say stuff like that." He says, "I never said I was his best friend."

I say, "You suck Bunga." Then run off towards Kion. When I find him, he's deep in the outlands, past Janja's territory near the backlands. I followed him for a few minutes before I even started to walk up to him, but before I can I'm pounced on.

I tumble with a wolf for a second, attracting Kion's attention. He says, "Hallow, get off her." The wolf does and says, "You know her?" He says, "Yeah, that's Fuli, she's cool." Hallow says, "She can't know about us." I say, "I already know." Kion says, "She's how I'm gonna escape without dying." Hallow says, "Really, the cheetah?" I say, "What's that supposed to mean?"

She sassily says, "The pridelands don't give a shit about cheetahs or wolves. How are you gonna keep him alive?" I say, "I'm a part of the lion guard without me. The pridelands would be vulnerable."

She just rolls her eyes and says, "What's up, Kion?" He says, "I need to lay low for the day." Hallow nods, and Kion says, "You should go patrol Fuli." I say, "No, let me stay here for a bit, I need somewhere to escape too." Kion says, "What?" I say, "Like Hallow said. They don't care about cheetahs. If you get banished, I'm next." Kion says, "Then come on."

We walk basically in silence until Hallow says, "Who are you?" Fuli says, "You know my name." Hallow says, "That's not what I mean. I haven't seen a cheetah around here before." Fuli says, "I ride solo, I don't have parents, I don't even know where I'm from." Hallow says, "Oh.... that's how a lot of us are." Fuli says, "What do you mean?" Hallow says, "Most of our parents were killed by lions. A few days before we were banished, Simba ordered the killing of about half our wolves, which left mostly pups." Fuli says, "He's terrible. He hates everybody but himself."

I'm surprised by her sudden hatred for Simba, but a smile breaks Hallow's lips as she pats Fuli's back and says, "That's the spirit." Fuli smiles back at her as we continue to walk.

I yawn as we walk to a cave. Hallow says, "You both look like you could use some sleep. You can rest here in my cave."  I say, 'You sure?" Hallow says, "Yeah, I'm up for the day." I say, "Thanks, Hallow." She just nods before walking away. I walk into the cave, but Fuli hesitates.

*Fuli pov*
I kind of freeze for a second. I don't know why Hallow is helping us, so I'm suspicious. But Kion says, "Come on, Fuls."

I walk into the cave with Kion, and he lays down in a corner. He doesn't close his eyes, though. As I lay down, he says, "Fuli." I say, "Yeah?" He says, 'Why don't you come with me." I think for a few seconds before saying, "I love the pridelands, Kion. I can't leave them for good." He says, 'Then come with me, overthrow Simba, I can be king, with you as my queen." I blush as his ears drop and say, "That sounded bad." I chuckle at his nervousness and lick his cheek. I say, "I can't K, I'm sorry." He looks sad, so I say, "I just can't leave my home, I won't tell anybody."

For a second, there's resentment in his eyes, but he smiles and says. "Thanks, Fuls, but we should get some sleep." I yawn in agreement, and we lay down together.

An hour later, Teo runs in and says, "Kion, wake up! Your dad is here." We both wake with a start, and Kion says, "Why is he here?" Teo says, "I don't know, he's talking with Sven right now, I don't know if he's looking for you."

*Kion pov*

My mind is racing with bad things, but a few minutes later, Sven walks in with a serious look. He says, "Fuli, if you would excuse us for a second." Fuli nods and walks out.

That leaves me Teo, and sven says, "Simba is gone, but be careful he has spies everywhere." I ask, "What did he want?" He says, "He wanted to know if you were here." I say, "You covered for me?" He says, "Everyone did." I say, "Thank you, Sven." His nods his head and leaves.

I walk out of the cave and meet up with Fuli. Then the other wolves.  They're in the community cave (where everyone hangs out), it's a large cave, so just about everyone is in there right now.

I sit with them, and Oscar says, "Hey, K, what are you doing here?" I say, "Laying low for a while." Fuli sits next to me, and Mathias says, "You must be Fuli." She says, "Yeah." Mat says, "I'm Mathias." He extends a paw to shake which Fuli reluctantly shakes. He says, "I don't bite, not cheetahs, at least." Fuli says, "Why's that?" Mathias smiles and says, "Cheetah tastes weird."

*Fuli pov*
I chuckle at his joke, and I feel comfortable as we talk. I was always told wolves weren't to be trusted. And that they're savage, but they all seem great. Matthias is a jokester, but he apparently takes responsibility very seriously. Oscar is kind of nervous looking. He's always slouched it looks like he's trying to hide, and he's very quiet. But I've heard a lot of stories that say the opposite.

But I notice Kion is very quiet and in his own world, so I say, "You Alright Kai?" He says, "Yeah, just nervous about the beating later." I say, "Oh yeah." He says, "We should probably leave." I say, "Yeah, probably." We stand, and I say, "It was nice to meet you all." Mathias says, 'You too, I hope to see you again soon." I say,"Goodbye." Everyone says their farewells, and we walk back to the pridelands.

As soon as we get to the pridelands, we're met by Simba, who says, "Kion, what did you think you were doing?" Kion yells, "If you're gonna beat me, f*cking beat me, don't rub it in!" Simba raises a paw, but I step in between them and firmly say, "No." Simba says, "Get away Fuli." I say, 'No, you've abused him long enough. I won't let you." He growls but says, "Fine, both of you double patrol, and don't think about returning to priderock find your own food and shelter." Kion just stares a hole through him as he leaves.

I say, "Let's go to my cave, Kion." He says, "Okay." We walk to my cave as he says, "I can't hunt Fuli." I say, "Why not?" He says, "No one ever taught me, I never had to." I say, "I can show you." He says, "Thanks, Fuli." I say, "No problem, Kai."
