when the wolves call

wolves of the night

*Teo pov*
The day after I met Kion, I snuck up priderock a few hours after sunset and found Kion awake outside. I say, "Hey Kion." He says, "Teo, I was wondering when you'd get here." I say, "Did you already make a decision?" He says, "Yes, but it left me with another." I say, "What?" He says, "I've gotta get out of here, but I can't tonight in 3-5 days, but I can't just run I'd get caught and probably killed, same if I snuck out, so I have to get banished, so I commit treason."

I say, "But he'd kill you." He says, "Not with leverage, if Fuli threatens to leave the guard or pridelands he can't kill me." I'm skeptical, but before I respond, I smell cheetah. Then I get pounced on. She growls at me and says, "Stop manipulating him." I growl back and say, "I'm trying to help him." Fuli growls again, but Kion says, "Back down Fuli!"

She gets off but says, "You actually trust him!?" He says, "Why wouldn't I." She says,' He's a wolf! They were banished for a reason." Kion says, "So, I trust him more than any pridelander."

Fuli is pissed but says, "Why, I thought you trusted me." Kion says, "Trust must go both ways." She sighs and says, "What do you want me to do?" I say, "Keep Simba from killing Kion if he threatens it. You tell him you'll leave the pridelands and join Zira or something." She looks skeptical but nods.

She says, "Why, Kai?" He says, "What do you mean, why? This is my chance. I thought you wanted me to get out of here." She says, 'I just... I just imagined us running off together finding somewhere we were accepted."

Kion says, "Then come with us, we can do that." I smile and nod at the idea of that. But she says, "You know I can't leave the pridelands vulnerable." Kion says, "Fuck them, they don't give a shit about us, why should we give a shit about them." Fuli says, "Kai, people care about you." He says, "No they don't, my best friend doesn't care even. Don't you think I hear them." Fuli doesn't look at him, so he turns away from her and says, "Teo, I want to see your land, meet the wolves." I nod and say, "Follow me."

*Fuli pov*
What Kion said made me think. Bunga doesn't like him. He's talking bad all the time. I always thought Kion didn't hear it, though.

Do they care about me? They've never offered to help me, no one other than Kion had asked about my day, or seen if I'm okay.

I'm an outcast, the only cheetah in the pridelands. Cheetahs are hated because of their loyalty to scar, which I didn't inherit, I guess. I'm not trusted. I know that. Hell, the only reason I'm here is Nala wouldn't let Simba abandon me.

I can't tell anymore, who I can trust, who likes me, who hates me. I don't know.

*Kion pov*

As we walk, I get to know Teo. Despite all the trust I have for him, I don't know him.

I ask, "Why did the wolves get banished?" Teo says, "Sven, our leader was very loyal to scar. We were like his personal army. But we tried to adjust when Simba took over, but he banished us for no reason." I say, "That's shit." He nods and says, "My parents and I got lost in the outlands one day and stumbled into the pridelands. Simba slaughtered my parents. I just ran... I'm gonna make him pay." I look at him and say, "We're gonna make him pay, both of us."

He smiles at me and nods before asking, "So, what's all this lion guard bullshit?" I say, "The second born of the royal family gets a roar that can launch enemies. He assembles a team of 5 to protect the pridelands." He says, "Sounds cool." I scoff and say, "Until you patrol every day for years, and basically don't get any free time."

He nods, and we continue to walk. After a few minutes, we reach the far end of the outlands. It's much more lively and green than the rest of the outlands. Teo says, "Just across that river is the backlands, so over here, it's much easier to live than anywhere else in the outlands."

As we walked, another wolf hugs Teo. He's brown just like Teo, and they look very similar. He says, "Scared me, bro." Teo chuckles and says, "I told you I'd be a bit, Mathias." Mathias looks at me and extends a paw to shake, saying, "I'm Mathias. You must be Kion." I say, "Yep, that's me." He says, 'We've heard a lot about you, I hope you'll join us." I smile and say, "I plan on it." He says, "That good we could really use you."

We walk around, and it's very active for this early in the morning. After a few minutes, two black and white wolves join us. One says, "Hey, I'm Hallow. You must be Kion." I say, "Yep." The other who is smaller says, "Hey, I'm Oscar." I say, "Hello."

We keep walking, and eventually, I ask, "Why is everyone still up this early?" Teo says, 'We're wolves. We don't need much sleep." I nod, and we walk for a while.

I feel welcome. All the wolves are very serious about their, jobs, but still welcoming. Everyone is smiling and happy to meet me. I can't remember the last time someone smiled with me.

I really like this place it seems a lot better than the pridelands. But I can't stay yet, Simba would find me.

After a few hours, I say, "I've gotta go back. Thank you all for this it's been great." Mathias shakes my paw and says, "I hope to see you again soon." I say, "Me too."

I leave shortly after. On my own, though, so when Simba is waiting for me I know I'm fucked. As I approach him, he smacks me across the face, then digs claws into my back.

I roar in pain as he asks, "Where were you?!" I say, "the outlands helping someone." He says, "Who?!" I roar again as he digs his claws deeper.

Then I hear Roni say, "Me, I got lost, and he helped find me and get me out." He gets off me and just walks away. So I stand and spit out blood.

Roni says, "Sit, and rest for a minute." I do as she says, "I didn't realize it was that bad. Why do you let him do that?" I say, "I can't stop him he's 3 times my size and gets enough food." She says, 'Why don't you run away?" I say, "He'll find me and kill me." She says, 'I can help you, I know people at the tree of life who will help you." I shake my head and say, "I already have a plan, thanks, though." She says, "Let me help Kion, I hate seeing how he treats you."

I look at her skeptically, but she gives me a reassuring smile, and I say, "Well, the wolves of the outlands asked me to join, all I have to do is escape, so the plan is for me to get banished." She says, 'How can I help?" I say, "Just help keep me alive for a few days." She says, "I can do that."
