when the wolves call

King and Kopa

*Fuli's Pov*
*3 months after kion left*
Ever since Kion left, it's gone to all hell. The guard is as disorganized as ever. Many pridelanders (including myself) have lost faith in Simba, and there's a rumor that 2 rogue lions have been scanning the area for days, which just causes unrest. Luckily, as far as we (the guard) know, they don't exist.

Today's patrol has been slow and hot, so halfway through, I say, "Ugh, it's too hot! Let's take a break and continue later." Everyone agrees without protest, and they all rush to a watering hole. I roll my eyes and walk over. I sleep on a rock until I hear a yell.

I shoot up immediately and say, "Guys, let's go!" We all rush to where we heard the scream and see a strangely colored lion chasing Zebras. He has a goofy smile on his face, so I pounce on him and say, "WHO ARE YOU!?" His eyes go wide as he says, "My name is King." Then I hear a strangely familiar voice behind me say, "I'm sorry about him he acts like a cub still." I say, "Bunga, talk to him." Bunga takes him a few feet away, and they start to talk as I eye King. He has burnt-orange fur, with yellow spots on his paws, yellow whiskers, and yellow eyes. He looks a lot like Kion, except he's clearly scared.

I decide he's no threat and get off him as Bunga runs back and yells, "It's Kopa! He's alive!" I say, "What? Bunga, stop messing around." The lions look very surprised, but "Kopa" says, "That's a surprise; it hasn't been that long?" I say, 'You're prince Kopa?" King laughs and says, "Prince, yeah, right." But Kopa says, "Yeah, what happened?" I say, "We thought you died in the attack, and they dumped your body in the river." He says, "They?" I say, "The wolves." He looks angry but says, "Take me to my father. I'll explain everything." I say, "Okay, follow me."

We all walk up priderock. But as we walk, I see the obvious differences between the two lions. King acts funner and talks a lot, while Kopa is calm and slightly secluded. I don't question either, though.

When we walk up to priderock, Simba's eyes go wide when he sees Kopa. He smiles and says, "Kopa!" Kopa says, "Father!" They hug briefly, but Kopa asks, "What's with the wolves?" Simba says, "What do you mean? Kopa says, "You told everyone the wolves attacked me?" Simba says, "I thought they did." Kopa says, "Well, it was Zira." Simba sighs and says, "Everyone else out." We all walk out, and I say, "What's your name?" The orange lion says, "I told you it's King." Bunga says, "Your name is King?" He says, "Yeah, is that really so weird?" I say, "It's strange." He says, "Yeah, I know."

I ask, "Where were you guys before this?" He shrugs and says, "We just found caves and stayed until we got kicked out." I nod and say, "So you don't have a home?" He says, "Never have never will most likely." I say, "Why not here." He scoffs and says, "Someone like me here? Yeah, right." I say, "What do you mean?" He looks scared for a second but says, "Why would you want me? I'm just an idiot lion.." I say, "I'm sure Simba will welcome you... I guess we'll see." He nods as I say, "We should go ahead and finish patrol before it gets dark."

We finish our patrol as Simba calls King.

*King pov*
Shortly after Fuli and the others leave, Simba wants me at priderock, so I walk back up. When I get there, I smile and walk over to Simba. He looks me up and down a few times before asking, "Your name is King?" I say, "Yep." He thinks before saying, "You look very familiar... have we met before?" I say, "No sir, I don't think so." He examines me again and says, "You seem well-fed; how?" I say, "Believe it or not, there's food outside the pridelands." He rolls his eyes and says, "You're a jokester, aren't you?" I say, "You could say that." He thinks before saying, "I'll allow you to stay here, but you must obey our rules." I shrug and say, "Okay, that should be easy." He says, "Good now, go."

I leave and see a group of Zebras grazing in tall grass and get an idea. I sneak up on them, and when I get close, I roar and scare them. They all start to "panic and run!" I laugh as they scatter, but then I see Fuli corral them and stare me dead in the eyes. She walks over and says, "What are you doing!?" I say, "It's just a joke." She says, "A joke I have to clean up!" I say, "Eh, it was pretty funny." She says, 'King!" I say, "What?" She says, "No scaring the Zebras." I roll my eyes and say, "Fine."

She walks off, and I go to find a cave. Eventually, I find one open, so I walk in and get comfortable before sleeping. But as usual, my dreams are filled with nightmares of my past.

*Fuli pov*
*1 week later*
Simba called the lion guard to priderock for an announcement. When we get there, Kopa is sitting next to his father happily wagging his tail. I'm confused, so I ask, "What's happening? Your majesty." He says, "Kopa has volunteered to lead the lion guard." I say, "Uhm, sir, I'm the lion guard leader; Kion made me it." He says, "Most pridelanders believe it would be best for a lion to lead the lion guard." I think of a lot of colorful words to say but nod as the mark appears on Kopa's shoulder.

I hate that Simba's gotta be so biased. He thinks lions are the best at everything, but I can lead the lion guard just as well as he could. Kion made me the leader, not him.

While I'm thinking Kopa walks up to me and says, "Fuli, no hard feelings, right?" I reluctantly say, "Yeah." He says, 'You're still leading the Fuli. I'm just here to help." I say, "Heh." He says, "I didn't volunteer for this. Simba wants me to lead it, but I'm gonna leave that to you." I say, "Oh, okay." He smiles, and I smile back as we walk out of priderock and back to patrol.

Kopa is a good "leader" he's nice and encouraging. So I have no problems with him, but he's kind of brainwashed like all the other pridelanders. To him, everything Simba says is the truth, which does get annoying at times. Same with King, but something feels off about him.

Over the next month, we learn about Scar raising his army, so we start to plan on how to stop it. We don't know exactly how we're going to re-kill him, but we'll figure it out.
