Chapter 19: Leaving

Reyna ran out of Asher's house, tears streaming down her face. She heard footsteps behind her and she ran even faster, all the way to the Forum where Reyna bumped into Hermione and Draco.

"Reyna, what the..." Hermione started to say, but her voice died down at the sight of Reyna crying. 

"Pretend you didn't see me!" Reyna said frantically. She dived behind a marble pillar just in time as Asher came into the Forum, panting.

"Have you seen Reyna? I really need to explain something important to her." Asher asked. 

"Well, sorry, but we haven't seen her." Draco replied. Asher nodded and continued his search somewhere else. As soon as he left, Reyna walked into sight.

"Reyna, what happened?" Hermione asked gently. Reyna sighed and wiped her tears.

"I saw him...kissing Esmeralda." Reyna sniffed. Hermione hugged her tightly and didn't say a word, which Reyna appreciated. If she had said something like "I'm sorry", Reyna would have broken down right then and there. 

"What am I going to do now?" Reyna asked in a whisper. "All of my future plans revolved around Asher."

"Maybe you should leave Camp Jupiter." Draco quietly suggested. Hermione looked at him in shock.

"Don't say that! It's a terrible idea. Camp Jupiter is her home, she can't just leave because one guy broke her heart." Hermione said. Reyna shook her head.

"It's not a terrible idea. I could go back to Puerto Rico." Reyna said. Hermione sighed.

"Well, there isn't anything I can or will do to stop you. But just promise me that you're not leaving because of that stupid, tree-hugger, ex-boyfriend of yours." Hermione remarked.

"I promise. Goodbye." With that, Reyna went to her own villa. But she found Asher waiting there for her. 

"Can we talk?" Asher asked nervously. Reyna thought for a few moments. She made up her mind not to be mad at Asher or Esme. It would do more harm to leave them without hearing their explanations first.

"Fine." She said. They walked for a few minutes, before Asher finally spoke.

"I wasn't cheating on you, Reyna, I swear on the River Styx! I was just going into my house and Esmeralda came and complimented me on my gardening. She asked me what kind of tools I used and I told her I bought them from-"

"Can you skip the minor details?" Reyna asked impatiently. 

"So we were just going into the living room so that I could show her my tools in my toolbox. Suddenly, I tripped over my rug, and fell onto the couch. As I tripped, I accidentally kicked Esmeralda and she fell with me. We landed on top of each other, and our lips just met by accident! I would never cheat on you, Reyna, I really didn't mean for that kiss to happen, and-" Asher was cut off by the sound of Reyna laughing. He paused.

"Um, why are you laughing?"

"You have to admit, it is pretty funny. You've always been such a klutz." Reyna said, laughing some more. 

"I feel kinda offended, but does this mean we're good?" Asher asked. Reyna's smile faded.

"Asher, I don't think this relationship was ever going to work out. We've been dating for over a year now, and there are still so many things I don't know about you!"

"What do you mean? What's my full name?"

"Asher Noah Emerson, but-"

"What's my favorite food?"

"Margherita pizza, but-"

"What my favorite color?"

"Black! Ok, I get it, so I do know some things about you, but-" Reyna was yet again interrupted.

"You know why my favorite color is black, Reyna? Because they're the color of your eyes!" Asher said. Reyna groaned.

"Why are you making it so difficult for me to break up with you?!" 

"Because I love you, Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano! I love you!" Asher shouted. 

"Yeah, well, I just don't feel the same way anymore! I'm leaving, and don't try to find me." Reyna snapped. She stormed into her villa and locked the door so Asher couldn't get in. She furiously threw all her clothes, toiletry, money, and prized possessions into her suitcase. She would use her money to buy a last-minute plane ticket to Puerto Rico. To her dismay, Asher was still outside when she was ready to leave for the airplane. Reyna took a deep breath and grabbed her spear.

"Desperate times call for drastic measures." She whispered to herself. She opened the door and slammed Asher in the head with the shaft of her spear, knocking him unconscious. Reyna caught him before he hit the ground and laid him on the concrete. 

"I should've just stayed with the Hunters, right?" She muttered. And then she ran all the way to the border of Camp Jupiter, never looking back once.
