The sound of blankets ruffling around and pillows being tossed to the ground echoed around the empty house from down the hallway, for the fourth night in a row. You laid awake in bed, staring straight up at the ceiling as you listened to every movement made. At this point, you didn't even remember what you were mad about. It must have started with something stupid like forgetting to water the plants or being late for dinner for about the millionth time. But that was just the beginning, soon escalating into a much greater argument filled with little problems that had been piling up for months. All those little fights pieced together, transformed into a full on battlefield. And that's why, for the fourth night in a row, you had chucked a pillow at Calum, screamed for him to leave you alone, and banished him to the couch. For the fourth night in a row, you could hear your boyfriend tossing and turning in the uncomfortably low quality couch. For the fourth night in a row, you found yourself losing sleep over the emptiness and lack of warmth your large bed held when he was gone.

You heard a soft groan through the wall, indicating that Calum really was struggling to adjust to the hard cushions of the couch. A pang of guilt erupted in your heart, silently wishing he was laying next to you. But you couldn't let him think what he did was okay, whatever it was that he did.

It had been a few days since you had carried on a real conversation that didn't involve yelling about something you had done before you were even together, and you were beginning to miss his sweet raspy voice in the morning, or the way he would whine when you really had to leave now, or the way he would pepper kisses across your face when you were feeling insecure. You missed your boyfriend.

Feeling a rush of neediness, you sat up in your bed and pondered the idea for a solid five minutes, thinking over the consequences. Finally decided to just do something, you clambered out of your bed, your feet padding softly out the door and down the hallway. Calum was obviously still awake, a hand behind his head as he watched whatever program was on TV this late at night.

His head snapped to you as soon as he heard your foot steps, looking at you with pleading eyes already.

You walked briskly past him and into the kitchen, where you could see through the little window that your boyfriend's face fell at your lack of acknowledgement to his presence.

You looked through the cabinet for a glass to get some water, realizing the only remaining cup was all the way on the top shelf. Suddenly wishing you hadn't come out here in the first place and questioning why you had decided to anyway, you struggled to reach the glass, practically climbing up onto the counter to reach it with many groans in frustration. Times like these were when you wish you had crazy long legs and model height, another thing you probably fought about earlier that week. Just when you were about to give up, a large hand held your waist from behind, guiding you down safely before reaching up and easily grabbing the glass for you.

Calum offered you the glass, which you took with a quiet 'thanks.'

"Can't sleep, huh?" He asked while leaning against the counter opposite you while you turned on the tap and filled your glass with water. He must have noticed the bags under your eyes from laying awake and thinking over what you should have said during an argument.

It was strange, almost as if you had forgotten how to talk to him when you weren't in a furious rampage. You shook your head without a word, taking a gulp of your water.

"Yeah, me neither. You'd think that damned thing would be a bit more comfortable considering how much it cost," Calum joked light heartedly, and you were struggling to hold back a small smile.

You bit your lip, staring at the ground, worried that if you looked into his deep brown eyes, you would be pleading for his forgiveness and asking him to come back to bed.

"(Y/N), I'm really sorry. I don't even know why we started fighting in the first place," Calum said, mirroring your thoughts, "All I know is that I've spent one too many nights on that couch, and I'm finding it hard to fall asleep without you." It was almost like he was reading your mind.

You cracked a small broken smile and glanced up at your boyfriend, "I know the feeling."

Calum seemed a bit relieved that you finally looked him in the face, let alone spoke to him.

"Do you think maybe we can just put this fight on hold for tonight, and we could just share the bed?" His eyes seemed desperate, and you knew it wasn't just because he hated the couch. "I'll stay way far on my side, I swear. You can even shove me off if you really get too annoyed with me."

You debated for a moment, looking warily at him. Calum respected that you weren't completely okay with it, that he had to deal with the consequences of whatever it was that he did. But you found yourself setting your glass down by the sink and grabbing his hand in your own, leading him back to your room.

Without another word, you slid far into the bed and turned to face the wall, feeling the bed dip with Calum's weight. It was like it was immediately warmer, and you could tell Calum was struggling to abide by his promise as he scooted closer every few minutes.

Eventually, you felt his arm snake around your waist. When you didn't protest, he pulled you into his gently, and you could feel his hot breath on the back of your neck. It was like you were home again, back in his arms and where you belonged. You couldn't help but lean back into him more, appreciating the warmth and safety you felt with him.

A soft kiss was pressed to your shoulder, and then another to the back of your neck. "I missed you."

Taking a deep breath, you turned in his arms to face him, and connected your lips sweetly with his. Calum immediately responded, keeping it gentle and soft as his hand held your cheek.

"I missed you too."
