This rocky beach is a secluded haven where smooth, timeworn stones stretch out toward the horizon, scattered with small tide pools that glisten under the sun. The sound of waves crashing against the rocks fills the air, mingling with the soft calls of seabirds overhead. Such was the Hanagae Beach.
Over the years, this place has been a quiet witness to countless love confessions, whispered or proclaimed between the echoes of the surf. Lovers have carved initials into the rocks or left letters in hidden crevices, creating a tapestry of memories that only the beach and the sea truly know.
But if we look back at the past, 15 years ago, that's where Jeonghan's Mom and Seungcheol's Dad broke up with each other due to their clash in opinions.
But why was Seungcheol taking Jeonghan to the beach right now? We'll see. The car drive was quite awkward, but it was comforting in some way. Was Jeonghan still angry with Seungcheol? He wasn't but he was slightly disappointed in him. But thinking about it, he should have listened to Mingyu and Wonwoo when they warned him about Seungcheol's behavior under the influence of alcohol.
But Jeonghan still remembers the part of his heart that fluttered when his lips were met with the other's lips. Maybe, a tiny part of his consciousness wanted it every single day.
And finally after a silent ride of 2 hours came to an end. While the pair got out of the car and headed towards the shore, Jeonghan finally took the initiative to mutter a few words " What are we doing here?"
" You'll see" said Seungcheol, in a monotone voice. This tone meant bad news to Jeonghan,( or did it? )
After a couple of minutes, Seungcheol let the younger to highest point of the beach. The exact same spot where Seoyun and Seungwoo made the bet before Seoyun abandoned her ex lover forever. Seungcheol took a deep breath and said
"I want to talk about the kiss when I was drunk. I realized that was unexpected and maybe uncomfortable for you"
"I understand if this surprised or upset you, and I'm really sorry for putting you in that position." he added.
Jeonghan could feel the sincerity in his words, maybe it was time to forgive the elder.
" I'm sorry" apologized Seungcheol. Jeonghan simply nodded his head.
"Great, now let's head back" said Seungcheol to which Jeonghan choked on his own saliva.
" That's it? You drove for two hours just for a two minute apology?" asked Jeonghan. Both of didn't speak a word, only the sound of seagulls flying above the sky and the waves hitting the rocks remained in the air.
After a few minutes, Seungcheol suddenly started laughing. It wasn't the menacing one, it was an adorable one. "Your reaction was so satisfying to watch"
" Idiot" scoffed Jeonghan.
" Of course we're spending the evening here" Seungcheol added " This place has the best sunset view"
"You should laugh more often" commented Jeonghan to which Seungcheol nodded his head.
Everything just felt like a never-ending dream. It was just perfect. The last thing that Seungcheol expected was to have a relaxing walk with Jeonghan on a very romantic beach, especially after Jeonghan's first impression on him : A KIND WEIRDO
As the sun dipped lower, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, Seungcheol glanced over at Jeonghan, whose hair glowed in the fading light, soft and wind-tossed. They walked side by side along the quiet beach, the waves lapping gently at their feet. Seungcheol's heart was pounding, but he knew it was time. His true intention wasn't to just apologize to the other. His conversations with Wonwoo, Mingyu, Vernon and Seungkwan had some impact on him.
It made him realize something : He'd go to any extent for the one and only YOON JEONGHAN.
"Jeonghan," he began, his voice barely above a whisper, "I've been wanting to say something."
Jeonghan turned to him, eyebrows raised in curiosity, his usual teasing smile replaced by a gentle warmth. That gaze only made it harder for Seungcheol to gather his thoughts, but he took a deep breath, focusing on the rhythm of the waves.
"This... being here with you... it feels like something I never want to end." He looked away, gathering courage, then met Jeonghan's eyes directly. "I realized a while ago that my feelings for you go beyond just being friends. I'm in love with you, Jeonghan."
Jeonghan's eyes widened slightly, a soft blush coloring his cheeks. For a moment, he said nothing, just looking at Seungcheol as if he were taking in the words, turning them over in his mind like seashells on the sand.
Finally, a smile broke out across Jeonghan's face—quiet, but full of understanding. He took Seungcheol's hand, fingers lacing together naturally, and leaned in close, resting his head on Seungcheol's shoulder. "I think I've been waiting for you to say that."
Seungcheol felt warmth spread through him, relief and joy mixed into one. They stood there in the glow of the sunset, hands entwined, with only the waves and the wide, open sky as witnesses to this moment they'd both been waiting for.
But before they could head back home, Seungcheol held Jeonghan hand and shouted, facing towards the cold waters.
" AUNTY, I'LL TAKE CARE OF YOUR SON REALLY WELL!"
He again shouted "YOU DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT JEONGHAN ANYMORE, I'M THERE FOR HIM!"
" You know about her?" asked Jeonghan, shocked. He never told anyone that Hanagae Beach also held a special value for him. That ocean water contained the ashes of his deceased mother.
"I also know that she died on the day you saved me" added Seungcheol.
Jeonghan could feel water welling near his eyes, but not out of sadness, it was due to the sudden gush of happiness that he felt.
Jeonghan's eyes shimmered in the fading light, and Seungcheol noticed a tear slip down his cheek, catching in the corner of his smile. Seungcheol felt a twinge of concern, reaching up to brush the tear away. "Hey, why are you crying?" he asked softly, his thumb gently tracing Jeonghan's cheek.
Jeonghan let out a shaky laugh, his voice barely a whisper. "These... these are happy tears, you idiot. I didn't think you'd ever say it."
The warmth in Seungcheol's chest grew, his hand still resting on Jeonghan's cheek, feeling the softness of his skin. Days ago, he'd kissed Jeonghan by mistake, driven by the recklessness of a drunken heart—but this time, he knew exactly what he was doing, exactly how much this moment meant.
But before Seungcheol could say anything else, Jeonghan moved closer, his hands gripping the front of Seungcheol's shirt, and, in one fluid motion, he pulled him into a kiss. It was soft yet filled with a depth and intensity that Seungcheol hadn't felt before. The gentle push and pull of the waves matched the rhythm of their kiss, grounding them in this quiet, beautiful moment.
When they finally broke apart, both of them breathless, Jeonghan let out a soft laugh, a teasing glint in his eyes. "So, does this mean I'm forgiven for the last time?" Seungcheol murmured, a playful smile tugging at his lips.
Jeonghan grinned, his fingers still gripping Seungcheol's shirt. "Let's just say... you owe me more than one sober kiss now."
Seungcheol chuckled, wrapping his arms around Jeonghan as they stood there, wrapped in each other's warmth, with the ocean stretching endlessly beside them.
