I took the Nevers with me all the way back to the castle. Luckily I was given a classroom in the ground floor, so we didn't have to go up more steps, the heels were already killing me. I wasn't used to them at all, but it was just because normally no one used them as their day to day footwear where I was from, so it would be weird if I did. Yet here, they sculpted my legs into an elegant display, adding to my 1.7-meter height some grace I secretly cherished.
Most of my students were already assembled in the cavernous room, murmurs of curiosity blending with the echo of my approaching footsteps. I wouldn't only be having twenty students like all the other lessons. No, I would be having the five first year groups all together on Mondays, the five second year groups on Tuesdays and so on until on Friday I had lesson with the first years, my own classmates, again.
Even so, I didn't know all of the hundred kids yet, only the twenty that were in my own classes. I would have to learn all the other eighty names soon and all of the other years kids too. And same for the School for Good. That basically meant learning eight hundred names. Fuck.
The eighty other students weren't the only people in the classroom. The room was silent not just from my arrival, but because Lady Lesso stood at the front, her stern gaze commanding their attention. A smirk tugged at my lips.
"Didn't expect to see you back at the castle so soon, Lady Lesso." I said, noting the confusion among my nineteen classmates as they took their seats behind me.
"Oh but it isn't that soon. But time does seem to fly when you are having fun."
"Saw something interesting?"
"I might have, yes." she replied. Flames seemed to fly between us as we talked, our gazes setting everything on fire. The connection was so obvious, so palpable for us, but we remembered we weren't alone.
"So, why are you here?" I asked.
"Can't I come to check on my own teachers? After all it's your first day and you have the biggest teaching class."
"Oh, I promise you, I'll be more than fine." I told her. An audible whispering had raised whilst we talked. I put a finger against my throat to amplify the sound and yelled: "Silence!"
Everybody shut her mouth and looked at me, eyes wide open. They didn't think I had it in me. I hadn't seen most of them since the day before at the welcoming ceremony, so the only thing they knew was that I had beaten some people's asses whilst acting both cute and like a psychopath at the same time. Yesterday's ceremony hadn't prepared them for the formidable figure I presented now, having already earned a reputation for fierce unpredictability.
"There will be no messing around in this class. I know you are aware I'm also a student, not only in the School for Evil but also in the one for Good, the Headmaster took care of that yesterday. But that doesn't mean you get to mess with me, underestimate me or think of this class as less important than the others. Believe me, I'll show no mercy with you in those regards and I don't have the same restrictions as other teachers because I'm also your classmate, so, I warn you, beware." I threatened them. "Still, there's one thing that's going to be done different in this class, that may seem merciful until you've tried the alternative. The grades in this class won't be influential on your path to failing in this School, and I'll hear no objections on the subject." I added, my gaze meeting Lady Lesso's to ensure my authority was sanctioned. She nodded, albeit with suspicion. "So don't be afraid of being turned into a gargoyle, a tree or a bird for failing the class. Be afraid, though, of failing this class three times. Three strikes you have, before consequences arrive. After each group of three consecutive fails you'll be sent to the doom room to be a guinea pig for my magic. And believe me, the Beast himself didn't enjoy it when that happened to him. Am I wrong Lady Lesso?" I asked her.
