Could this finally be it?

⚠️TRIGGER WARNING⚠️: mentions of rape.

⚠️A/N about the trigger warning: The topic will be just mentioned as a character briefly tells to another her past. I'm not trying in ANY way to romanticize it and will be giving it the seriousness it deserves. That's why it's going to be kept short. I'm not taking the decision to write about this topic lightly and there is a reason for it. From here on, the character who she tells (and the one she told in a previous chapter without any mention of what it was about) will know about this and act upon it if the other character gets triggered. If there are explicit mentions of the topic in other chapters, it will be stated as a warning at the beginning just like here.

Sofía's POV:

I woke up next morning feeling tranquile. It was still about an hour early and there was something different and I still couldn't notice what it was. I noticed Lady Lesso still lay beside me, barely stirring from her sleep. We hadn't moved much from how we actually went to sleep. As a smile rose on my lips I slowly caressed her belly over the shirt, trying not to wake her up, but without being able to resist. I had been concerned about her leaving, getting scared, and not even because of the nightm...

That was it! The nightmare! It was gone! I hadn't woken up not even once through the night. It was impossible to know for sure if it was gone for good, but this... this gave me so much hope. I had finally been able to sleep through the night, and I already felt much more relieved and at ease.

"Are you awake?" she whispered in her deep morning voice. I smiled and moved my head to watch her.

"Yes," I replied. "And guess what?"

"What?" she curiously asked. It was still early and she had just woken up, so it was less probable that she would realize it on her own. Her eyes blinking open as she adjusted to the morning light filtering through the room.

"No nightmare." She opened her eyes wide. "My theory was right."

"Are you serious?" she asked, her voice filled with a mix of disbelief and relief. I nodded, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders. "This is such great news. Can you know tell me what was your theory?"

"Can you not guess it on your own?" I teased gently, enjoying the playful banter with her.

She stood silent for a seconds, thinking.

"You did fall asleep whilst riding the horse."

"Mhm."

"So that why you asked me to stay. That was what was different from all the times you had the nightmare."

"Yes. Well, not that it was the only reason though."

"So... let me get this straight. Seeing me was the problem during the day, but sleeping next to me was the solution? How-?"

"Shh... let's not worry about that now, I promise it makes sense. But there are more pressing things to check right now." Her brow furrowed slightly as she tried to make sense of it.

I slowly got up, enough to move myself on top of her. I caressed her cheek gently, watching her look at me with surprise in her eyes before leaning in to kiss her. Just the day before, I could have barely seen her in the morning if I didn't want the memories of the nightmare to start flashing back, and now we were in bed, our lips pressed together.

It always surprised me how Lady Lesso's lips were soft, a surprising contrast to her usually stern demeanor. I felt a shiver run through me as I deepened the kiss, her taste intoxicating, a blend of strength and passion. Her hands found their way to my hips, fingers curling around the fabric of my nightgown as if she was grounding herself in the reality of this moment.
