Why her?

Sofía's POV:

As I left Dovey's office, I realized it was almost time for lunch. We had both missed half of our lessons, and as I had Sader's lesson, I tried to hurry to class quickly.

I appeared at the door and opened it up, interrupting the lesson, but trying to quietly direct myself to my place.

"Where were you?" Sader asked fiercly.

"Wouldn't you like to know," I replied. It was none of his business.

"Well, yes, I would. You were supposed to be here."

"I was with Dovey, you know that. She had many things to do, and I offered to help her get it done. She can vouch for me."

"I certainly hope she will because I'm asking her. Still, for a late comer, a question is necessary. Name three rules the School has, apart from the main five."

"Easy. No entering the blue forest after dark, the roof is forbidden, the gargoyles will take care of you if you don't respect that, and..." I blanked for a second before arriving to the conclusion that I would have to use that one. "...the no attachment rule for teachers."

"Still bothered by that one I see," he noted, raising an eyebrow.

"So you were listening."

"Hard not to do so, even if I couldn't care less."

"Even so, I'm not bothered, I just find it weird when no one likes it."

I sat down in my chair next to Agatha.

"What was that about? What did you mean by 'No Attachments rule for teachers'? Why did it take you so long with Dovey?"

"I'll explain what I can later, I promise."

And so, the class carried on without further discussion of the topic.

As I entered the dining room, I saw Lesso standing in a corner, yelling at some of her Nevers that seemed to have gotten on her nerves. I decided that at least I had to approach her to tell her I would explain what she saw later.

As she was done, she started walking towards the teachers table but found me in the way.

"Lady Lesso." I said, aware that there were students listening. "Can I talk to you for a second?"

She raised an eyebrow, considering my request.

"I'm not sure you deserve even a second of my time right now."

Her words hit me like a punch on the stomach, but I deserved it.

"Please. It's important. I want to explain."

She hesitated for a bit.

"I guess I can spare a minute."

We didn't leave the dining room, but I took her to a place with no students around, so I could at least speak more freely.

"I'm sure you have questions," I said.

"I thought you were the one doing the explaining. Besides, why would I? You are free to do what you want."

"But you are not happy about it."

"Can't say I am," she admitted, rolling her eyes.

"Then ask."

She hesitated for a second before doing so. "Why? After you made me wait, why her?"

"I wasn't planning to. When she took me to her office, I knew she was doing it just to spite you. I wasn't flirting with her at first, but after the comment you made, I felt angry and wanted to repay it."
