"Ready?" Jack asks with a grin, putting a knee on the mattress before sitting in front of me with his phone in his hand. He waits for me to nod before turning his phone on, unintentionally showing me his new lock screen. Us. I point at the screen, grinning at the cute photo one of his friends took of us that is now what he sees when he turns his phone on.
"Yeah, I like it." He chuckles, admiring the photo before adding "I feel like the look on your face is very Josie, and me kissing you is very me. Enamored Jack and 'Of course he is' Josie." He smiles at me, pushing his wet hair out of his face before pressing a kiss on my lips. Now it's my turn to smile at him, interrupting our kiss with our clashing teeth.
He peppers my cheek and neck with more kisses before unlocking his phone to look for my new EP which came out a few minutes ago. He's heard some of it but he wanted to listen to it with me now that everyone has access to it. I watch as he types in my name before clicking on my profile then 'Emails I can't send'.
My title track starts flashing me back to the first time he read the song in my journal in the coffee shop while we were in Boston. He listens closely, reading the lyrics with my hand in his. Every time I sing about being let down by a cheater he squeezes my hand as if he were silently promising to never do that. I hope the simple action holds some weight behind it.
Jack blows a breath past his lips at the first song, nodding with wide eyes. "You're so talented." he says caressing my cheek with his thumb while 'Tornado Warnings' starts playing. He hasn't heard this song at all so once it starts he focuses his attention on the lyrics again, chuckling when I call my ex-boyfriend a "son of a bitch".
Once 'Vicious' starts I get slapped in the face by the memory of coming to Jack's apartment and crying in his lap. I was so overwhelmed with the release of Brendan's album and the backlash I was getting for things I didn't do I couldn't help but cry. The tears were partly because I was furious about his lies and the other part was because I couldn't believe I was finally with a man who genuinely cared about me.
Jack pulls the sleeve of his sweatshirt up and shows me the goosebumps he got from the first verse. I rub his forearm before pulling his sleeve down with my hand still under it. I'm glad he genuinely enjoys my music, it's heartwarming to know my boyfriend is a fan of mine. The song that comes after this is another song he hasn't heard so I'm excited to catch his reaction to the lyrics.
His expression changes while he mouths the lyrics as if speaking them will help him understand them faster. His gaze snaps up to meet mine, displaying a smirk but avoids asking if this is about him. He forces his eyes off of me to read the lyrics but once the lyric about sweating him out comes around he pauses the song to say, "Okay, that's got to be about me." with a massive smile.
