Chapter 22: A lot to deal with

Baram was trying to settle into the pack. After the first meeting she had the pack, they decided to take a few steps back and consider whether they were compatible with her. Thus, nothing was official yet, but she did come to visit them often. She took a few days off duty and stayed mostly inside the cave getting more familiarized with the pack's dynamics. She would sometimes accompany Amala and Jin to their jobs and help out in the village until the end of the morning, but other than trivial activities, she didn't do much but observe them.

Yoongi was glad that Baram seemed to take the initiative to spend time with Jin and Amala since he knew she didn't leave the best impression on them. Especially Jin who clearly stated his dislike of the wolf the same day he met her. Amala didn't say anything about it and that was what tipped Yoongi about her true feelings because Amala would usually be all over the place and talk for hours about the things and the people she liked.

After a few days, the head alpha woke Baram up from a light nap and invited her to take a walk with him. He wasn't in a rush, neither did she seem to be, but he was sure her former pack were starting to get impatient with him.

"Baram, I need to know if you bonded with anyone. Have you gotten close to all of them or do you need more time? Because your father shoots me dirty looks every time I am near him."

The beta chuckled lowly and sighed while looking up at the sky.

"I bonded with you first, the rest, I'm not sure. I don't know if they are scared of me or just straight up don't like me. But they went cold after that first afternoon. I feel a bond could be created with every one, I care about them and I respect them highly. But I'm afraid that the bond is one sided." Baram confessed her worries with a confident voice, clearly expressing herself because she knew that was the only way to fix things.

"Alright, I hear you. I will talk to them and see what I can do. I know we haven't declared anything yet, but if everything goes well in a month or two, we will schedule a date for the ceremony. But this isn't a promise and it means literally nothing as of now."

"We will schedule? Amala told me her ceremony was spontaneous." The beta questioned a clear blush on her cheeks.

"You're not Amala though. Amala doesn't blush at the mention of mating, and she calls being marked being mated. Understand the difference?" he counter asked.

Baram nodded her head and lowered her gaze, deep in thoughts. Yoongi approached her and lifted his hand to caress her cheek. She was a strong beta, her body was scarred and tough, but she had managed to protect her face, keeping a soft skin and soft features. Yoongi liked that, he liked how she could easily fool her enemies into thinking she was a weak harmless beta.

"So what is Amala?" She asked suddenly, making the alpha raise his brows in surprise.

"What do you mean what is Amala? She is a wolf like you and me. A white wolf which I agree is pretty rare, but they exist." He chuckled.

"I've seen how everyone treats her, especially you. I'm just curious why. Considering she has a peculiar past and everything."

"Amala is... I don't know, a very special girl." He answered, rubbing the back of his neck.

"That's it? I'd like to believe that I'm special and Taehyung is special and alpha Jungkook." Baram defended, coaxing more information out of him.

"Okay, okay, I get it. Listen she is..." He started, clear hesitation in his voice; he struggled to find his words for a moment under the scrutinizing eyes of the beta.

"Amala is a fantasy, someone that all would want in their lives. And not because she is submissive female omega and whatever, I mean, yes that helps, but she is a so much more than that. She is beautiful, mesmerizing, but she doesn't pride herself in that. Instead, she takes pride in how good she is with stories, her imagination is out of this world and she is so proud of that. She is intuitive and extremely intelligent. Which is why and how she survived everything she had been through, which by the way, don't ever use her past against her like that ever again. She is adaptable and flexible to whatever the world needs, so in tune with her instincts and with nature it's actually scary sometimes. And the reason why her marking was so different from what yours will be is because she is so carefree. She acts spontaneously yet she is so calculating, her spontaneity is never a random impulse like the rest of us. She listens to her omega wolf and predicts the consequences of her acting, that's why I'm harsher with her than I am with Jimin because I know that whatever she does, she knows the consequences."
