Kabir
If a few weeks ago someone told me I'd be on a private yacht for a night I would have laughed on their face, because even my dreams didn't extend to where I am standing right now. I dreamt big but only for something I knew I could achieve. After all, you can only stretch your legs the size of your blanket, if you don't want to be left out cold. And yet here I stood with a man who went above and beyond to make my day without expecting anything in return. I always thought getting spoiled by my boyfriend would feel bad, and wrong in ways I'd start feeling pathetic but I don't, because as much as the thought made me uncomfortable in the beginning, this is Avi's life. This is what he had known since he was a kid, this is quite possibly the only thing he had constant in his life, luxury. But it's not the private yacht that's making my throat clog up with lumps I keep swallowing and making me emotional it's the blanket with lots of sweets, pastries, a bottle of wine with two wine glasses, and a big bouquet.
In the bedroom, there was a projector that was attached to a laptop which had multiple movies downloaded on streaming for me to pick from. When did he do all of this? He was with me the whole day. On the phone, he was busy on his phone the whole day, I thought it was just for work. This is what he was doing the whole day? What did I do to deserve this in my life?
Arms wrapped around me and I breathe in his scent, lavender and cedar, which are what he always smells like. Sometimes the scent was so strong around his hands like he had intentionally done it. He rests his chin on my shoulder and I lean into him closing my eyes.
"Do you like it?" he asked.
Like is too small a word for this night. "It's everything a man can dream of, but for me, it's beyond my imagination, Avi."
I turned around wrapping my arms around his neck and kissed him. Again when words failed me, I kissed him to pour down every word of gratitude and love I felt for him.
"Dance with me." He murmured on my lips.
"There is no music."
"Alexa play a romantic song."
A slow soft tune started playing. We started moving on the tunes our legs in sync, my arms still wrapped around his neck, his hands on my waist. "Is this how you wanted to choose our song, through virtual assistance?" I raise my eyebrows because I am nothing if not a little dramatic. He chuckled.
"I don't think our song exists baby. I think we need to get someone to compose the new version of Somewhere Only We Know." I laugh and he smiles. We stayed there laughing and dancing, him twirling me, our steps moving in sync like we were made for dancing with each other under the stars. After I don't even remember how many songs we stopped. His lips met mine, our breaths already heavy with dancing, I met him tongue to tongue pleading with whichever cosmic interruption brought me there with him to never let this end. Right when I thought about undressing him because I wanted to touch him, wanted him to touch me, mark me, love me, fuck me he stopped. I frowned. "It has to happen at midnight." He whispers mostly to himself.
He walked towards the blanket and bent down to take the bouquet and he looked nervous. But then he quickly got up and extended it to me.
"Happy birthday baby." I take the bouquet in my hand slightly confused about what's going on. And then I saw the card tugged in between and when I read what was written on it I thought I would pass out.
I wish I met you sooner Kabir, I wish I could go back in time and find you in the past so that we could have all the years we missed together but I can't so here's a promise, I don't want to hide from you, you have my heart, my soul, all of it is yours, yours to love, yours to break, yours to do what you want, I'll give you every piece of me and in exchange, all I want is for you to let me make you happy till the end of my days. I want you to remember that every breathing moment of my life from now on is another chance for me to make you happy, to make you smile and laugh.
