Chapter 4: Cold Shoulders
Talk with each other, he says. Jisung huffs, side-eyeing Hyunjin. Work out the problem at hand, he says. It's not that Jisung is frustrated with Chan or anything, he just really does not want to be anywhere that involves Hyunjin. Can't they be on the same team without having to interact with each other? It's not that difficult... but he does understand Chan, especially when it gets worse.
As Jisung went to pick up his bag, Hyunjin started talking. "Look, Han."
"Don't start with me." Jisung interrupted, "I don't want to interact with you. I won't cooperate having to be all friendly friendly with you. Actually, I don't ever want to acknowledge you." Hyunjin clenches his jaw, flinching slightly at the nasty bruise that is starting to form.
"Fine. If that's what you want then go ahead. You go on your own way and I'll go on mine. But, don't blame it on me when this doesn't all go well." He grabs his duffel bag and water bottle. "As always, ignoring is your way to avoid your own problems. Looks like things never changed, huh?" Jisung grits his teeth, ready to fire another word when Hyunjin walks past him and out of the door, leaving him shaking in fury.
How dare he. How dare he fucking bring up any of the past? He clenches his fists, his eyes locking with his reflection through the mirror. He has the urge to break it, only refraining himself as he remembers that he'll only get in much more trouble if he does that. He took a deep breath, calming the nerves that Hyunjin definitely hit.
He hates him. He really really hates Hyunjin with all his heart! He should be the one angry between the both of them. Besides, Hyunjin was the one who left and not him. As the daunting thought haunts his head, he yells in fury, kicking his bag in anger.
"I'm not the one that needs to apologize!" He shouts with all his heart, tears cascading down his cheeks. "Why? Why does it have to be you? Why! Why you?!" His fist meets the wall, a jolt of electricity running through his fist and arm, but he doesn't care how much damage it does to him.
He slams his hands repeatedly to the wall before his legs give up on him and he melts down to the floor. A defeated sob left his lips. "Out of everyone, why did you decide to come back into my life again..." He whispers, crying his heart out. Unaware of the figure standing outside the door, listening through the door that has been left slightly open.
Hyunjin pushes himself away from the door, closing it gently to give Jisung the privacy that he didn't mean to hear. He walks away, his head hanging low as a stray tear falls. He held his duffel bag tightly in his hand to stop himself from breaking down in the middle of the hallway.
As he enters the vacant music studio that Chan often uses, his whole facade breaks. Upon closing the door, he falls on his knees, an uncontrollable sob racking his own body.
I will never ever forgive you for what you have done. He clutches his breaking heart, the sound of his cries falling on the empty studio. I should be the one lashing out at you but I can't... I can't because... "My heart can't take it." He curled in on himself, his tears damping his clothes as he cried and cried until there were no more tears left.
It was around midnight when they decided to go home, bumping into each other by the door. Jisung completely refuses to look at him and continues his way inside their dorm as Hyunjin can only sigh and follow him inside.
The others could still feel the tension brimming between them as soon as the next day rolled by, yet it was mingled with ignorance at that point. They refuse to go near each other nor do they even make any eye contact. One of them leaves as soon as the other goes inside the room. They won't even go as far as having each other nearby.
It was leaving Chan in frustration. That wasn't what they had talked about. It was far from what they talked about. He clearly set the boundaries of what should happen between them and if they continue doing this, it will only wreck them further if they don't fix this.
"Okay, break time!" Their choreographer called out. They all sighed going to their little corners however Hyunjin and Jisung were already in their opposite ways with each other, clearly avoiding one another. Chan doesn't know if he likes having them argue or whatever this thing that they are doing.
"Hyunjin and Jisung. Talk, outside." Hyunjin and Jisung barely spared a glance at each other, their distaste was already showing on their faces, and they both hesitated to go outside. Chan sighed, he's definitely forming a headache if they continue to keep acting like this. "Now." His stern voice made them follow through even though they didn't ever want to talk about this.
Chan walked outside, seeing them with a significant amount of space separating them. He crosses his arms, "It wasn't in the agreement that you'll give cold shoulders, both of you know that right?" A guilty look passed by their face, "Be honest with me, what's between the two of you? Why do you hate each other so much?"
Silence. None of them spoke at all, it was as if they had so much to tell but so little to actually show. Chan takes a deep breath, "I don't want to lose both of you in the team. Hyunjin and Jisung, can't the both of you just... talk? Think of us as well. Think of how much this whole thing is affecting us. For the sake of the team..."
"I'm sorry, hyung." Chan and Hyunjin looked at Jisung in surprise. "I was the one to tell Hyunjin that we shouldn't acknowledge each other. It was on me this time."
Chan was sure that Hyunjin would scoff at this or make a retort but imagine his surprise when Hyunjin started to speak. "I'm sorry too, Chan-hyung." He caught Jisung looking towards Hyunjin in what looked to be pain in his eyes before it disappeared when he looked down at the floor. "It was true that I was the one that started the fight yesterday."
He sighs, "You shouldn't apologize to me." Chan softly smiled at them. "I do appreciate it but, you know who deserves the apologies. Seriously, talk with each other." He pats both of them on the shoulder, nodding to them both before he leaves them alone in the hallway again.
