Chapter 6: The Moon Knows My Sadness
Everyone cheered when it was announced that they'd get a vacation and have the time to go back to their families. Except for Jisung, who doesn't know what to do. Chan and Felix were both going to go back to Australia but Jisung wasn't planning to travel home anytime soon as his brother wasn't back home yet and his parents were both away on a vacation with his grandparents and wanted to have a full family reunion rather than a separate one so he had to wait.
He planned to tag along with Chan but then Chan suddenly had the greatest idea of having Jisung go with Hyunjin instead. He insisted that it was not necessary to go that far and begged to be with someone else other than him but the decision was final. All the members patted him in sympathy, telling him that it was for the better.
Chan thinks of it as a 'bonding moment' while Jisung disagrees and tells him that it is 'torture.' instead.
When he conversed with Chan, he told him that it would be great since they started being civil with each other but what he doesn't know is that they were far from being civil. They are still as hostile as ever when any of the members are not around.
He sighed and couldn't help but agree when Chan gave him those soft eyes that he couldn't deny at all even if Hyunjin was completely against that idea. He doesn't want to burden Chan any further and be stressed that they aren't getting along. They can pretend... Right?
It was the worst idea.
When he and Hyunjin started commuting back to his home, he couldn't help but feel irritated at the silence between them yet none of them still spoke as they got on the train.
Hyunjin was the first to break the silence, "Why did you agree?"
"What?" Hyunjin glares at him.
"Why did you agree to come with me?"
"I just don't want Chan to feel bad again." Hyunjin scoffed, spiking irritation to Jisung. "What's wrong with you? I'm at least trying to make an effort here."
Hyunjin rolled his eyes, "Oh, sorry. It's all on me again." He looked away from Jisung, "Of course, it is." He mutters under his breath. Jisung gritted his teeth, choosing to ignore the anger starting to ignite in him.
This is torture. Jisung thinks as they walk their way to the familiar street leading back to Hyunjin's family house.
"Don't even bring up anything between us to my mom or my dad." Hyunjin warns him, "Actually, why don't you just sleep outside? That's more better than having you step inside the home that you don't deserve to go back to." A stab in the heart, he bit back any kind of retort. He's trying to be the understanding person here!
Hyunjin walks in front of him, making his steps more hurried as they reach the doorstep. He goes inside, making Jisung follow him. He hates that he is clearly being stepped on but he has no choice now.
He confirms that there is no backing out when Mrs. Hwang spots him waiting by the front door. "Oh, Jisung!" She smiles widely, inviting Jisung in a warm hug. "It's been a while, Hyunjinnie hasn't updated us at all! We thought that you'd broken up." Jisung took a risk to look at Hyunjin's way, seeing him with an unknown emotion while watching them.
"Ah... We're good." He laughs awkwardly. He didn't want to break the news, Hyunjin was supposed to do that. This is supposed to be a happy little vacation, where he could relax and not cause any trouble.
"Alright, honey. Let them settle in." Mr. Hwang appeared, giving him a firm squeeze on his shoulder. "Welcome home, Jisung-ah." A pinch in his heart breaks the warmth that was supposed to embrace him. All he felt was coldness.
